2022 World Cup: Nigeria’s home record not good, Ghana will surprise them in Abuja – Andre Ayew
Ghana captain, Andre Ayew has insisted that Nigeria’s home record is not really good.
Ayew also said that the Blacks Stars of Ghana would surprise the Super Eagles of Nigeria when both teams battle each other on Tuesday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, in Abuja.
The 32-year-old said this while reacting to Ghana’s 2022 World Cup first-leg playoff 0-0 draw against Nigeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Friday night.
Ayew, who did not feature in the first-leg tie due to the red card he received during Ghana’s 3-2 defeat to Comoros in their last group game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon, told reporters in Kumasi immediately after the match, “If you ask me, I am happy with the result. I would say yes because football has changed a lot and I know for sure that we can go to Nigeria and surprise them.
“As far as I am concerned, I am very much optimistic that the Black Stars can make it to the World Cup in Qatar.
“I also know that Nigeria’s home record is not really good. I also believe that the Super Eagles will be under a lot of pressure in Abuja on Tuesday, particularly as they could not score against us.
“But I am a bit disappointed in our fans. Yes, they came in their numbers but then, they were not really on top of their voices to support the Black Stars, I think they wanted to see the team score first, but overall, I hail our fans.”
