Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State on Saturday presented staffs of office to traditional rulers across the 21 local government areas of the state. The presentation comes barely 24 hours after the Governor officially installed the 28th Attah of Igala, His Royal Majesty Mathew Opaluwa. Presenting the staffs of office to newly appointed and upgraded traditional rulers in Lokoja, Governor Bello said his administration has continued to enjoy peace, tranquillity and development through the maximum support of traditional rulers in the state He explained that the decision to appoint new and upgrade traditional rulers was based on merit, adding that they have all contributed immensely to the promotion of peace in the state. For peace to exist in Nigeria as a nation, Bello advocated for traditional rulers to be recognized as the third tier of government, stressing that, they should be actively involved in policy-making for Nigeria to progress. â€œTraditional rulers are the owners of the land. They know all the terrains and the people around them. They should be actively involved in decision making for peace to be sustained in our country. When we recognize them as the fourth tier of government, we will be able to combat crimes and witness peace and progress in our country,â€ he said. Bello promised to cooperate with traditional rulers adding that those that were appointed and upgraded was done in fairness, equity and justice. The Governor noted that his administration inherited insecurity from the previous administration, stressing that, with the support of traditional rulers, the problem of insecurity was nipped in the bud in Kogi State. Bello admonished other states of the federation to come and learn from the success stories of Kogi state in addressing insecurity since his administration came on board in 2016.
