Ballon d’ Or: It’s really stupid, doesn’t make any sense – Ex-Chelsea star, Frank slams organizers

Former Chelsea star, Frank Leboeuf, has slammed Ballon d’Or organizers for their concept of awarding the prestigious prize to individual players in a sport that is regarded as a team effort.

Leboeuf compared the Ballon d’Or with awards given to musicians, adding that if an elite musician wins an individual award, his group will not react to it positively.

He believes the idea of awarding the Ballon d’Or is really stupid and doesn’t make any sense to him.

Recall that the Ballon d’ Or was not handed out last year due to COVID-19 pandemic.

30-man nominees for this year’s Ballon d’ Or was shortlisted last week, which includes Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi, Chelsea’s Jorginho, Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo and among others.

Speaking to ESPN via The Chelsea Chronicle, Leboeuf said: “I don’t really care about that. Musicians have an award every year. What if during the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, let’s say John Lennon or Mick Jagger won a personal award for their year of being the greatest musician or singer? How would the Beatles react to that? That is the same thing for me. That is stupid.

“That is really stupid to give a personal, individual award into a collective sport. Like it would be stupid to give John Lennon when he was belonging to the Beatles an award only for himself. That is what I think about the Ballon d’Or. It doesn’t make any sense to me.”
