Barcelona scramble as only 14 players available for Rayo Vallecano opener
Barcelona have registered 17 players for the LaLiga opener against Rayo Vallecano - with 14 available for the game.
Barca are battling today to have their new additions registered as they attempt to meet LaLiga wage ceiling requirements.
Sport says Barça announced a few hours ago the new numbers of Miralem Pjanic (16) and Memphis Depay (14), even as they work to register their five new signings- Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessié, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Koundé- and the two players who re-signed- Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembélé.
In LaLiga, there are only seventeen players registered in the club's squad, although three of them do not have a number. They are Nico Gonzalez, who is already at Valencia on loan, and Samuel Umtiti and Martin Braithwaite. The latter two have been discarded by Xavi Hernandez and should leave shortly before the close of the market.
The players currently registered are: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen (1), Sergino Dest (2), Gerard Piqué (3), Ronald Araujo (4), Jordi Alba (18), Eric Garcia (24), Umtiti (no number), Sergi Busquets (5), Pedri (8), Pjanic (16), Frenkie de Jong (21), Nico (no number), Ferran Torres (11), Ansu Fati (10), Memphis (14), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (17) and Braithwaite (no number).
