Borno EYN demolition: Police arrest suspected shooter of church members
The Police in Borno State have arrested the shooter of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa of Nigeria Church (EYN) members. The name of the culprit is Baba Bukar, a member of a joint security team, a government official said. The source told DAILY POST that Bukar fired the bullets that hit church worshippers during a clash with Borno Geographical Information System (BOGIS) officials last Thursday. “He has been in custody of Borno Police Command since the governor directed an investigation into the matter.” He confirmed that all is being done to make peace with the families of the victims and the church. The Police will make an announcement soon. The authorities had promised the Christian community that the killer would be tracked. Hours after the incident, Governor Babagana Zulum directed the police to investigate, arrest and prosecute anyone connected to the violence and shooting. The BOGIS exercise caused the death of Ezekiel Bitrus. The deceased was buried this week. Meanwhile, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has defended the Borno government over the demolition. MURIC noted that nine churches earlier destroyed by the Boko Haram sect have been rebuilt by Zulum. The Islamic organisation said the branches damaged are in Hawul, Chibok and Askira-Uba Local Government Areas.
