EPL: He needs help – Souness exposes Chelsea’s major problem under Potter

Liverpool legend, Graeme Souness has exposed the club’s major problem under their manager, Graham Potter this season.

Souness believes Chelsea’s major problem this season under Potter is strikers.

He said Chelsea have lost two strikers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in recent months, adding that Potter needs help by the club’s board under the leadership of Todd Boehly.

Speaking after Chelsea drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest in Sunday’s Premier League tie, Souness was quoted by Sky Sports as saying: “They didn’t cover themselves in glory, [Romelu] Lukaku and [Timo] Werner, but are they a better team without those two? Are they more of a goal threat without those two?.

“When you look at big football clubs and who makes decisions, at the start, when this new consortium takes over, Petr Cech, Marina Granovskaia, and Thomas Tuchel all leave the club, and Todd Boehly announces himself as new director of football, short term.

“If you have lost two strikers [Lukaku and Werner] and you go out and spend £270m plus on defenders, mostly, where is your football thinking? Surely your priority is to go and get a striker from somewhere.

“I think Graham Potter needs help. I hope they are sitting him down and he is part of the conversation. ‘What do you need?’

“That squad isn’t equipped to go and win big games of football in a very demanding league because they don’t have any strikers. [Manchester] City have plus 28 goal difference, Arsenal plus 26, Chelsea are plus 2. That stat alone tells you where they need help.”
