Get rid of him – Whelan tells Liverpool to send midfielder out of Anfield
Noel Whelan has told Liverpool to get rid of midfielder, Naby Keita.
The former Leeds United star wants the Guinea international out of Liverpool next summer and also suggested they replace him with Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Jude Bellingham.
The midfielder’s current deal expires at the end of the current season and Liverpool are said to have already opened talks with him regarding a new deal and are confident of keeping him at Anfield.
Whelan said Jurgen Klopp’s side should save Keita’s wages to fund a deal for Bellingham.
He told Football Insider, “Is it worth giving contracts to players who haven’t really been on the pitch very often? He’s been injured a lot – and he’s also had spurts in the side where he’s looked very ordinary.
“He’s not featured at all this year. I understand they don’t want to lose him on a free, but they could free up a lot of money in wages as well if they let him go.”
“That can go towards a Jude Bellingham in the summer.”
