Ajimobi Awarded N30bn Last-minute Contracts In One Day, Says Seyi Makinde

Seyi Makinde, Governor-elect of Oyo State, has accused Abiola Ajimobi, outgoing Governor of the state, of awarding contracts worth N30billion in one day. Berating the move, he, however, promised to review all contracts awarded in the state. . Read his statement: “Events of the past two weeks have shown characteristics of targeted contract awards that were compiled in a haste and randomly awarded to empty government purse before the May 29 swearing-in date. “While the government remains in place till May 28, awarding a N30bn new set of contracts in one day as was the case during last Wednesday’s executive meeting was curious and an aberration, especially when debts, as old as 2011 are left unpaid.”

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has sympathised with victims of the building collapse in Ibadan, and ordered free treatment for the injured at government hospitals. Mr. Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor, said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan. The three-storey building, which is still under construction, had collapsed on Friday evening at the Shogoye area of the city, leaving some persons injured. The governor directed that the victims should be moved to the state hospitals and should be given immediate and free medical attention. Official senatorial results for four of the nine local governments in Oyo South Senatorial District have been announced. The senatorial candidate of the ruling APC in the state, Abiola Ajimobi, lost in all four.
