Onuachu Eager To End Super Eagles Goal Drought

Super Eagles Forward Paul Onuachu said he’s working hard to end his goal drought in the National team. Onuachu has scored just once for Nigeria, during an international friendly against the Pharaohs of Egypt back in 2019. The Forward has since gone eight games without scoring, a run that led to his initial exclusion from the main Super Eagles squad for the Afcon qualifiers. Speaking on the barren runs in front of goal, Onuachu who has bang in 27 goals for his club KRC Genk of Belgium this season, said he definitely want to score for his country, but it all depends on certain things. “Of course as a striker you always need to score when you’re called upon and when I have the chance to play, definitely in my head I want to score, but if it doesn’t come, I’ll keep working hard for...

AFCON: Sadio Mane Cries After Being Booed By Senegal Fans

Liverpool star Sadio Mane had to be helped off the pitch in tears after being booed by his own Senegal fans. Mane played for his country in their 1-0 African Cup of Nations qualifier victory against Equatorial Guinea. According to reports, the Senegal fans were furious with the 26-year-old when he spurned a glorious chance to double his side’s lead. He was booed for the rest of the game, and at the final whistle, he slumped to the ground inconsolable. In tears, Mane was helped up from the turf by his team-mates. But after covering his face with his shirt, the Liverpool ace fell back to the floor. He was again helped to his feet, and eventually came off the pitch with his head buried in his jersey. AFCON Qualifiers: We Became Nervous And Made Mistakes – Rohr

Gernot Rohr has explained that his Nigeria side “became nervous and started to make mistakes” in their loss to South Africa this past weekend. The Super Eagles were beaten 2-0 in Uyo on Saturday evening in their opening Group E match in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The German coach believes that Bafana Bafana’s extra experience played a role in the game, as did his side’s inability to convert the scoring chances they created when the game was still locked at 0-0. “We failed to convert our opportunities and when they scored, my young team became nervous and started to make mistakes,” Rohr said in his post match comments. “It is a sad result, but we win together and we lose together, and when a team gets this kind of result, it looks within and rectifies whatever sh...

Injury ruled out skipper Mikel Obi, Leon Balogun and Carl Ikeme, while Victor Moses is reportedly due for a toe surgery. The Eagles also overlooked China-based strikers Brown Ideye and Odion Ighalo The former Portsmouth defender said Eagles coaches led by Gernot Rohr should have opted for more experienced players for a game of such magnitude. “In my opinion, the coach should have played some experienced players for such important game which he didn’t and as always we need coa...

‘Recalling Enyeama To Eagles Can Cause Bad Blood’ – Adegoke Adelabu

Former Green Eagles winger, Adegoke Adelabu has kicked against plans by team manager, Gernot Rohr to recall former goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama to the fold ahead the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 AFCON qualifiers. Enyeama announced his retirement from the Super Eagles in October 2015 following a conflict with former handler coach Sunday Oliseh. Adelabu, who played for the then IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan, told The Guardian yesterday that the best thing to do is to leave Enyeama out of the team saying: “The issue of multiple captains could bring personality clash into the team, and in a way, cause serious damage to our qualification.
