FIFA Suspend Senegal star Pape Gueye from football as part of probe into midfielder’s transfer from Watford to Marseille

FIFA have reportedly suspended Marseille midfielder Pape Gueye as part of their investigation into his move to the Ligue 1 club from Watford in 2020. The suspension means that Gueye, who is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, cannot take part in any competition until further notice. The 22-year-old came off the bench for Senegal's 1-0 win over Zimbabwe on Monday but was not in the squad for their 0-0 draw against Guinea on Friday. 'There were problems between Watford and Marseille on a transfer [and] FIFA has suspended him,' Senegal manager Aliou Cisse said. Gueye joined the Hornets in the summer of 2020 on a free transfer from the French side Le Havre, but was sold to Marseille just 17 hours later. Despite his incredibly short stint as Watford player, the...

Emmanuel Adebayor: The Super Eagle Who Never Was

Goal imagine what could have happened if the Togo international had pitched his international tent with Nigeria The year is 2008, the month is January. Arsenal fans emit exasperated sighs as striker Emmanuel Adebayor departs London Colney for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, a potential six-week absence. It is a wrench to leave, but the hopes of Nigeria's Super Eagles rest on his shoulders. Wait, what? Don't get taken out of the story: this is a parallel universe; Nigeria, under the management of German Berti Vogts, have designs on a third Afcon title, and Adebayor's scoring boots will provide the ammo needed for this assault. Considering his Nigerian parentage, it has often been quite tempting to wonder what might have been had the Togo international, who turned 35 on Wednesday...

Amaju: Say No to Politics, Please

Amaju Pinnick I am one of those who believe that the Super Eagles did well in South Africa against the Bafana Bafana in the last AFCON 2019 qualifier played by the Nigerian senior national team. I told a group of friends who watched with me that the South Africans were lucky to escape with a draw because we had a more experienced collection of players who know how to do what they have to do while they have a more cohesive team short on talent and experience. In truth, the Super Eagles were denied victory by the incompetence of the referees of the match. But that is not what I want to talk about today. My concern this morning is to advice the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick to concentrate more on his job and do less...

An Instagram user sparked a controversy on his page by criticizing him for dancing and singing to a worship song, saying he shouldn’t have done so since he was a Muslim.
