At least, no fewer than 24 girls has been rescued in a brothel. Among the sex workers rescued in Lagos, one has said she and her colleagues now collect N1,000 from customers due to economic constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. She was among the 24 girls, who were trafficked from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos for prostitution, rescued at Abbatoir, Agege, area of the state by the Police, on Thursday. At least two persons have been confirmed dead and one injured after a train averted a collusion with an abandoned commercial bus. A phone dealer, Toyin Shokefun, has faulted the release of a suspected burglar, identified only as Omotola, by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, saying the officers were compromised. Shokefun alleged that Omotola was let off the hook after the Investigating Police Officer, Omoniyi, aka Omo, was given money by “gang members” of the suspect. It was learnt that Shokefun’s shop on Bankole Street, Agege, was burgled on August 12, 2017, from where 52 phones valued at N1.5m were stolen. According to the 28-year-old, while some of the phones were new, others were brought to her for repairs. Also stolen were a laptop and a camera. An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday differed the sentencing of a man, Haruna Umar, until Sept. 11 after he pleaded guilty to stabbing a man over a cup of beverage worth N200. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Wednesday said work on the proposed expansion and reconstruction of the Oshodi-International Airport road would commence in September. Ambode dropped the hint at the 3rd Quarter Town Hall Meeting held at the Badore Ferry Terminal, Lagos. He said the reconstruction of the Oshodi-International Airport road would see its transformation to a 10-lane road.
