Buhari’s Order To Shoot People With AK-47 Also Affects Amotekun – Miyetti Allah

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Association has said that the order of President Muhammadu Buhari to security agencies to shoot anyone seen with AK-47 rifles also affects “Amotekun and other ethnic militias.” The association added that it does not have any problem with the order because its herders do not carry AK-47 rifles. The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore National Secretary, Saleh Alhassan, stated this during an interview with SaharaReporters, noting that every non-state actor carrying rifles was bound by the presidential order. Alhassan said, “First and foremost, our members don’t carry AK-47 riles. But if you have criminals that carry weapons, they are not state actors. So, if the President who is the Commander-in-Chief and whose responsibility it is to ensure law and order in ...

THE South-East chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has expressed its support for Governor Willie Obiano’s pronouncement of treating any herder illegally possessing firearms as a criminal. The Chairman of the group, Gidago Sidikki, stated this on Thursday while reacting to a statement credited to Obiano wherein he ordered the police and other security agencies to treat any herder found in possession of AK-47 rifle as an armed robber. The governor had in a stakeholders’ security summit in Awka on Monday ordered security agencies to treat any herder carrying AK-47 as a criminal. Obiano said the order would be in force after the state had taken a headcount of herders in the state. Sidikki said, “The governor’s order is in line with the already ex...

Governors Ortom & Bala Mohammed Reconcile After Fight Over AK-47 For Herders

The media fight between Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom and his Bauchi state counterpart, Bala Mohammed, over the bearing of AK47 rifles by herders appears to have become a thing of the past as their Rivers state counterpart, Nyesom Wike, reconciled them after a meeting initiated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital on Tuesday March 2, IgbereTV reports. The two governors have been in the news as they disagreed over the use of AK-47 rifles by herders. Recall that on February 12, Governor Mohammed had accused Governor Ortom of championing the campaign to criminalize the Fulani tribe. He also defended the use of AK47 rifles by herdsmen. According to him, the herdsmen deserve to carry rifles as the government has failed in th...

The Benue State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesdays said they the governor is wrong and that they do not carry AK-47 like herdsmen. I Won’t Apologise For Opposing Fulani Profiling – Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has said that he will never apologise for opposing profiling of patriotic Fulani herders as killers and kidnappers. Mohammed had last week said that “herders who carry AK-47 around do so to defend themselves against cattle rustlers that are rendering them bankrupt.” The position generated mixed reactions across the country. Speaking yesterday during the official launch of the 2020/2021 annual livestock vaccination campaign at Galambi Cattle Ranch in Bauchi, Mohammed said no tribe or group was free from criminality, so labelling a particular tribe was unfair and would breed disunity in the country. Reacting to his Benue counterpart, Samuel Ortom, who asked him to apologise for defending carrying of weapons by herders, he said the Fulani, ov...

Don’t Blame Herdsmen Alone, Farmers Also Carry AK-47 For Self-Defence – Lalong

Simon Lalong, chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Plateau State governor on Tuesday said Fulani herdsmen alone should not be singled out for blame for carrying AK-47 as farmers are also guilty of the same offence. Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed had incurred the wrath of Nigerians last week when he said herdsmen are compelled to carry AK-47 and other firearms for self-defence. However, speaking on Channels Television programme ‘Sunrise Daily’ monitored by DAILY INDEPENDENT, Lalong said an investigation by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum also showed that farmers also carry AK-47 and other firearms for protection. According to him when the farmers-herdsmen crisis occurred in Plateau state, both herdsmen and farmers were arrested with AK-47. He said, “I am not justif...

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Monday accused Bala Mohammed, Bauchi State governor, of being a terrorist. “I am beginning to think that my brother, the governor of Bauchi State is part of the terrorist Fulani organisation that is terrorising this country,” Ortom said while addressing journalists in Makurdi, Benue State capital. “Why do I say this? This is the same governor who took the oath of office to protect the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This constitution does not leave room for allowing foreign herdsmen to come in without valid papers,” he added. He also referred to the assertion by Mohammed that herders should carry AK-47 to defend themselves as being “unconstitutional.” “His recent outburst that Fulani herdsmen are justified for carrying A...

Following series of backlash trailing his recent comments on the herders’ controversy, Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has defended himself saying that he was misunderstood insisting, however, that carrying of AK47 by Fulani herders was the last option for self-defence. The governor in a press release issued by his SSA Media, Mukhtar Gidado on Sunday stated that “to the extent that not every herdsman is a criminal, the reference to AK-47 was simply to put in perspective, the predicament and desperation of those law-abiding Fulani herdsmen who, while carrying out their legitimate cow-rearing business, have become serial victims of cattle rustling, banditry, kidnapping and assassination.” The statement made available to newsmen late Sunday evening further contai...

How Notorious Kidnap Kingpin Evans Was Tracked, Arrested

The police have said that useful statements made by a younger sister of the notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudi Onuamadike aka Evans, led to his arrest. The sister was said to have been arrested after her number was identified as one of the contacts in Evans’ special SIM card. It was learnt that Evans’ childhood friend and four girlfriends were also picked up by the police and they all gave relevant information. This is just as operatives disclosed that Evans used three phones – two of which reportedly cost N2.4m and N2.6m respectively – with anti-tracking features to frustrate his arrest. It was learnt that he contacted families of his victims through the phones to demand ransoms, bearing in mind that the families could report to the police for tracking. Reliable police sour...

Fulani Herdsmen Destroy Farms, Rape Our Wives —Ohanaeze

THE President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, has said the prevailing activities of the Fulani herdsmen had over the years led to the killing, maiming, raping of Igbo people and destruction of their farms. He said: “The peaceful coexistence between previously peace-loving Fulani herdsmen, who herded their cattle with long canes and our local farmers has been replaced by an era of AK-47 totting and rampaging herdsmen who kill, maim, rape our people and destroy our farms. “Not one of them is ever arrested for illegal possession of firearms. Even those arrested in Nimbo for mercilessly killing our people remain unprosecuted by the Northern dominated law enforcement agents.” Also, an Igbo chieftain in Ebonyi State, Chief Abia Onyike, alleged that the Fulani herdsmen have recen...
