This was at the eight - day Fidau prayer session held for Jakande who served between October 1, 1979, and December 31, 1983 . Ex-Lagos Governor, Lateef Jakande, Laid to Rest

The remains of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the first civilian governor of Lagos state, have been laid to rest. He died in the early hours of Thursday, February 11. He was 91 years old. Late Jakande was governor of Lagos State from 1979 to 1983. He also served as the Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime from 1993 to 1998. See more photos from his funeral below..

The first Civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, is dead. Announcing Lateef Jakande's death on Twitter, the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu wrote: With gratitude to God for a worthy life well spent in the service of Lagos State, Nigeria and humanity, I announce the death of a venerable statesman, outstanding politician, public administrator and the first Civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande. He reportedly died on Thursday at the age of 91. Jakande, aka Baba Kekere, brought a lot of development to Lagos as governor between October 1, 1979 and December 31, 1983, in line with the five cardinal programmes of the Unity Party of Nigeria founded by a former Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
