The Imo state police command has arrested a 20-year-old student of the Imo state University, Onyeme Victor Chimaobi, pictured above, for engaging in cultism. A statement released by SP Orlando Ikeokwu, operatives of the Divisional Police Hqrs, Shell Camp, Owerri, intercepted the suspect during a routine patrol. Ikeokwu said locally made Pistols and two live ammunition were recovered from the suspect. The police spokesperson said the suspect confessed to be the owner of the gun and said he uses it for his personal protection. Four Bandit Leaders Repent in Katsina, Surrender their Arms and Ammunition

Four bandit leaders in Katsina state have denounced membership of the group and have surrendered their arms and ammunition to the state government. At a brief ceremony today April 8, the ex-bandit leaders surrendered 45 rustled cattle, two General Purpose machine guns, 24 AK 47 assault rifles, 109 GMPG ammunition, 95 7.62MM Live Ammunition, among others. It is however not clear if they were granted amnesty by the state government. Katsina state is one of the worst states affected by the activities of bandits in the country. Last December, bandits kidnapped over 300 pupils from a boys secondary boarding school in Kankara. The boys were released within a week after successful negotiations with the kidnappers.

NDLEA Uncovers First-ever Hashish Oil Lab in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a laboratory for the production of hashish oil in Lagos state. Hashish is a drug made from the resin of the cannabis plant and it is consumed by inhaling from a small piece, typically in a pipe, bong, vaporizer or joint, or via oral ingestion, and according to the Principal Staff Officer, Public Affairs of the NDLEA, Jonah Achema, the laboratory was the first ever. NDLEA also recovered a gun and 13 rounds of live ammunition. Jonah Achema revealed in the statement that the laboratory, located at 7 Imam Augusto Close, Victoria Island, was dismantled by the Serious Enforcement Team of the agency. A fierce encounter between Nigerian soldiers and Boko Haram insurgents at the north-western part of Baga town in Borno State, left at least 20 members of the terrorist group dead. A Kenyan police constable identified as Michael Siwalo with service number 116272, committed suicide on Friday May 15 after shooting his wife following a domestic dispute. Nigerian Troops Kill 134 Boko Haram, ISWAP Fighters in Nigeria

Nigeria has killed 134 members of the Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist organizations.. Nigeria’s defence ministry spokesman, John Enenche, told reporters on Monday that the Boko Haram fighters were killed in Operation Kantana Jimlan, which was launched on May 1 in the country’s northeast. ISWAP is a splinter group of Boko Haram. He said 78 of those killed were members of ISWAP and 56 were Boko Haram members, adding that Nigerian troops arrested 16 informants of the fighters as the country aims to eradicate both armed groups from its territory. Lots of ammunition was also seized during the operation, he said.

Some illegal arms dealers who sell ammunition for as low as N500, have been arrested by operatives of the Bauchi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Nigerian troops deployed to Moriki, Zamfara State, on Monday intercepted a motorcyclist with a bag filled with ammunition that was disguised as a bag of rice. According to military sources, the motorcyclist escaped but the bike and the bag of ammunition were seized. The bag contained about 4653 x rods of 7.62mm (special), the sources said.
