PM News reports that the policeman shot a trailer driver who got into a scuffle with him when he refused to allow him (trailer driver) park in front of the bank since the entire Burma Road had been overtaken by indiscriminate parking by trailer and tanker drivers. The policeman allegedly shot him and two other trailer drivers who intervened and they all died at the scene. He later retreated into the bank. When the other trailer drivers demanded that he be brought out, the management refused and they proceeded to set it ablaze. The Sterling bank beside it also caught fire. PUNCH ...

Apapa Gridlock: NUPENG Wants NNPC To Provide Alternative Loading Depots For Tankers

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Monday appealed to the NNPC to provide alternative loading depots for petroleum tankers to check the recurring gridlock in Apapa area of Lagos State. Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, the South-West Chairman of the union, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. Korodo said that the recurring gridlock in Apapa was because 90 per cent of petroleum products were stored in various private tank farms in the area. “This is why all the adjourning routes to Apapa always experience traffic jams. “The tanker drivers are always on queue waiting for their time to load the petroleum products stored in various farm tanks in Apapa. “They occupy a lane out of the two-lane route until it is their ...

Cooking Gas Price To Crash By 20 Per Cent – NLNG

The ex-depot price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) popularly called cooking gas is set to crash by about 20 per cent in the next few weeks, Managing Director of Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG, Mr. Tony Attah has said. He gave this cheering news during a facility tour of some LPG plants in Lagos yesterday. He disclosed that dearth of infrastructure at jetties remained a factor responsible for skyrocketing prices of LPG. This is coming barely one week after the price of automotive gas oil (AGO), also known as diesel, crashed to as low as N155/litre in some fuel stations around the country. According to the NLNG boss, N150 million intervention has been set aside for the rehabilitation of three jetties in Apapa, including Petroleum Wharf Apapa (PWA), New Oil Jetty (NOJ) and ...

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday lashed out at the association of newspaper owners in the country, reprimanding them for allegedly deploying their “platform to pursue personal interests.” In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, the anti-graft agency said the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria, NPAN, wrongly accused it of attempting to stifle free press in raiding the head office of The Sun Newspapers last week. The anti-graft agency was responding to an advert which NPAN placed in THISDAY and Leadership Newspapers Monday, condemning the June 12 presence of anti-graft operatives at The Sun office, which is located in Apapa, Lagos. “The manner of the invasion tends to suggest that the EFCC was out on a self-help mission, a voyage ...

NPA Backs Down, Re-Admits NDLEA At Seaports

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has back-tracked on its earlier stance that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is among evicted agencies from the seaports, and has included the anti-narcotics agency in the list of seaports agencies, thereby bringing the list of the number of agencies that are to operate and have physical representation at the ports to eight. It would be recalled that the NPA Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman, had earlier mentioned seven agencies during a stakeholders meeting held in Apapa last week, with NDLEA not among the list of approved seaport agencies. In a statement signed by NPA’s Principal Manager, Public Affairs, Ibrahim Nasiru, late on Monday evening, the agency stated that a directive communicated to the Managing Director of the NPA in...
