NBA Condems Kogi Election, Calls It A Dent To Nigeria’s Democratic Process

The Nigerian Bar Association on Sunday condemned the Saturday governorship elections in Kogi State as falling below the minimum standard of a credible election. This was contained in the report of the NBA’s Election Working Group led by its Chairman, Afam Osigwe. Lagos Police Arrest 4 For Burning Ballot Boxes In Okota, Oshodi/Isolo

The police in Lagos have arrested four persons in connection with the disruption of voting and destruction of voting materials in Okota, Okota in Oshodi/Isolo council area of Lagos State. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Zubairu Muazu, made the disclosure during a visit to the affected polling units. Muazu was in company with an Assistant Inspector-General of Police monitoring elections in Lagos State, Mr David Folawiyo. National Youth Service Corps members working as ad hoc staff for INEC has escaped death after gunmen reportedly invaded a polling unit in Rivers State. The incident reportedly occurred in Bonny local government, Rivers State and the gunmen were reported to be over 20. Soldiers Arrests 10 Ballot Box Snatchers

Not less than ten youths have been arrested from different locations in Bende local government of Abia state over an allegation of an attempt to snatch ballot boxes. They were said to have been arrested following a tip-off and they were handed over to army personnel on duty close to the local government headquarters. The youths in the area identified the suspects who are said to be unknown faces and armed. The senior army officer in charge of the team who pleaded anonymity said that they will investigate the report to ascertain the true position.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has released photos of sample ballot boxes for the 2019 General elections. The ballot boxes are in different colours, with the descriptions of the offices to be voted. The ballot for presidential votes is red, that of the Senate is black, while that of the House of Reps is green. All the three elections are taking place on February 16. For the next batch election scheduled for March 2, the ballot box for governorship election is red, while that of state House of Assembly election is black.
