The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has approved the payment of UTME registration fees for 3,810 students who got grades A and B in the recently concluded SSCE Aptitude Test in the State. The Commissioner for Education, Bauchi State, Aliyu U. Tilde, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday. Lassa Fever: NCDC Confirms 11 New Deaths in Nigeria

11 new deaths have been confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in the recent Lassa fever outbreak ravaging most states in the country. The development brings the total number of death recorded to 132. In its report for week 9, NCDC revealed that out of a total of 421 suspected cases, 85 were confirmed and 11 deaths reported from 30 local governments in nine states.   The affected states are Edo, Ondo, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Taraba and Kebbi. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday February 19, revealed that that 103 people have been killed by Lassa fever since its recent outbreak on December 30, 2019. Late victims of the disease resided in Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Kano, Kogi, Kaduna, Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi, Enugu, Abia, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Sokoto and Katsina. A total of 586 cases have been confirmed across the country. Yellow Fever: Death Toll Hits 22 In Bauchi

The recent outbreak of yellow fever in Bauchi State has killed 22 persons so far. The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency yesterday confirmed six new deaths after the 17 previous recorded. The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Rilwan Muhammed, said that no fewer than 143 suspected cases of the disease were recorded out of which 24 cases were confirmed and 22 dead. Muhammed said 10 out of the 22 victims were rangers working with the Yankari Games Reserve, adding that all the cases were from Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state. He noted that only 79 percent coverage was recorded in the ongoing immunization campaign against the vector that carries the disease.

NCDC: Lassa Fever Death Toll Rises To 101

The death toll from the Lassa fever disease ravaging the country since the beginning of the year has risen to 101, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has said. The health agency, in its situation report of April 8, said 408 cases of the disease had been confirmed from 20 states, where the disease has been active. The states are Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Benue, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe, Imo, Kogi, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba and the Federal Capital Territory, with Edo, Ondo and Ebonyi having the highest reported cases. A 400-Level student of the Department of Electrical Electronics at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Gabriel Chinonso, has died at the swimming pool of the Yankari Games Resort. The student was said to have drowned in the swimming pool on Sunday. The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kamal Abubakar, who confirmed the incident to journalists, said the command learnt about the death through a source. Bauchi State College of Nursing and Midwifery on Thursday announced the withdrawal of 90 students over alleged poor academic performance. The Acting Provost, Rakiya Saleh, said in Bauchi that the students failed Preliminary Training School (PTS) examination conducted by the institution. ‎Saleh said only 63 of the 153 students who sat for the examination passed the PTS. Health minister Isaac Adewole Monday announced that the outbreak of Lassa fever has spread to 15 states, recording 31 deaths. He added that there had been 105 laboratory confirmed cases and three probable cases.
