Edo College abuse video: State Govt suspends principal and housemaster; to prosecute abusers with Child Right Laws

The Edo State Government has suspended the principal and a housemaster of the Edo College, Benin City, over an abuse video which went viral on Monday. In the distubing video, some senior students of the college were seen mercilessly brutalizing and humuliating their classmates, with one of them stripped naked. Secretary to Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie, in a statement on Tuesday, August 3, said the abusers will be prosecuted with Child Rights Law. A yahoo girl identified as Isaac Christiana Nkemdirim has bagged an 8-months jail sentence, after being arraigned by the EFCC. The yahoo girl who bagged an 8-months jail sentence, pleaded guilty to the one count charge of obtaining by false pretence contrary to Section 15(2)(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2002 as amended and punishable under 15(3) of the same Act. The statement by EFCC reads in part; "The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office today, June 28, 2019 secured the conviction of Isaac Christiana Nkemdirim before Justice M.G. Two men assault police officers in Edo

One Isreal Idowu, 29, and Jordan Emmanuel, 24, were on Tuesday arraigned in an Oredo Magistrates’ Court in Benin City, for allegedly assaulting police officers on duties. The duo, who reside at No 8, Akali Street, Off Agboma, Off Ekewan Road, Benin City, were said to have committed the offence on March 28, NAN reports. The police prosecutor, Insp. Mohammed Shaibu, told the court that the defendants assaulted one Onohi Ehineboh and Sgt. Stella Obrikogho by willfully obstructing them from performing their official duties as police officials. Shaibu said the offence is punishable under Section 356 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap 48, Vol. II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 now applicable in Edo State.
