Nigeria has been excluded from the list of 28 countries granted debt pardon by the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Board has approved a third tranche of grants for debt service relief for 28 member countries under the Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust (CCRT). This approval followed two prior tranches approved on April 13, 2020 and October 2, 2020, respectively. Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has said travelling by sea to Benin Republic ahead of the qualifiers on Saturday, is the best route. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has decided the team will travel for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier by boat. Explosion Rocks Benin, Houses Destroyed

THERE was pandemonium at Dumez Street, Off Benin Auchi Road, Eyean, Benin City yesterday after an early morning explosion suspected to be bomb in the area. About six houses were affected by the explosion, while its impacts were visible in about six houses in the area. As at the time journalists visited the place, operatives of the Nigeria Police were already on ground to ascertain the cause of the explosion. Nigeria Meets Benin, Niger Over Border Closure

Nigeria is locked in a meeting with neighbouring countries over the recent border closure. The Tripartite Committee Meeting by the Foreign Ministers of Nigeria, Benin and Niger Republic is to consider the conditions put forward by Nigeria before the land borders can be opened for goods importation. The Federal Government Committee had met fortnight ago setting conditions for reopening of the country’s borders for goods importation from neighbouring countries. Nigeria also insisted that neighbouring countries must respect the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) rules of origin if they must bring goods into the country.

Operatives of the EFCC, Benin Zonal Office on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 arrested a suspected internet fraud kingpin, Akegor Godbless Omamuyorwi at his palatial home in Ughelli, Delta State. The arrest of the 34-year-old internet fraud kingpin, who is a chief in Agbaro community was triggered by a petition from a bank following complain by one Canadian resident alleging that she had transferred the sum of 390,950.34 Canadian dollar to two different accounts of the bank based on scam.
