Ortom Reacts As Rate Of HIV Drops From 12.9 To 4.7 Percent In Benue

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has expressed delight over the sharp drop in the rate of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV, which causes Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, AIDS, from 12.9 to 4.7 percent in Benue State. The latest quarterly factsheet of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has revealed that two states – Akwa Ibom and Benue, have the highest number of people infected with HIV in the country. According to the report, 48 out of every 1,000 persons selected at random in the states are likely to test positive for HIV, which is way higher than the national average – 13 in every 1,000 persons. 245 new Cases of COVID-19 Recorded in Nigeria – 76 in Lagos Alone

245 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Monday, May 4, 2020. According to Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, out of the 245 new cases of COVID-19, 76 were recorded in Lagos,  37 in Katsina, 32 in Jigawa, 23 in Kano, 19 in FCT, 18 in Borno, 10 in Edo,  9 in Bauchi, 6 in Adamawa, 5 in Oyo, 5 in Ogun, 1 in Ekiti, 1 in Osun, 1 in Benue, 1 in Niger,  and 1 in Zamfara. Nigeria now has 2802 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 417 patients have been discharged from various Isolation centers across the country, while 93 deaths have been recorded.

Lassa Fever: NCDC Confirms 11 New Deaths in Nigeria

11 new deaths have been confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in the recent Lassa fever outbreak ravaging most states in the country. The development brings the total number of death recorded to 132. In its report for week 9, NCDC revealed that out of a total of 421 suspected cases, 85 were confirmed and 11 deaths reported from 30 local governments in nine states.   The affected states are Edo, Ondo, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Taraba and Kebbi. 103 Killed by Lassa Fever in 16 States

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday February 19, revealed that that 103 people have been killed by Lassa fever since its recent outbreak on December 30, 2019. Late victims of the disease resided in Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Kano, Kogi, Kaduna, Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi, Enugu, Abia, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Sokoto and Katsina. A total of 586 cases have been confirmed across the country. Edo has the highest burden of confirmed cases at 35 per cent, followed by Ondo with 32 per cent and Ebonyi at six per cent. 26 states have also recorded at least one confirmed case across the 101 local government areas in the country. The death toll from the Lassa fever disease ravaging the country since the beginning of the year has risen to 101, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has said.
