Thomas Tuchel blames Stamford Bridge’s floodlight for Jorginho’s error

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has blamed the Stamford Bridge floodlights for Jorginho’s error that gave Jadon Sancho his first Premier League goal for Manchester United on Sunday. Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw at home by United with Jorginho scoring a penalty to make amends for his error. Jorginho found himself as the last line of defence when dealing with a high ball that’d been booted clear by Bruno Fernandes. He failed to control the ball and Sancho punished him as he raced clear to slot past Edouard Mendy. But Tuchel reckons the Euro2020 winner was blinded by the lights as the ball came down. “It’s very unusual a mistake like this and to concede a goal like this for us in general, especially with Jorgi,” he told Sky Sport. “He misjudged the situatio...

Rangnick hasn’t done enough to deserve Man United job – Kanchelskis

Former Manchester United star, Andrei Kanchelskis has blamed the club for not allowing Michael Carrick to continue in charge of the club until the end of the season. Carrick was given the caretaker role after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the club’s manager and led the club to a 2-0 win against Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday. The former midfielder is expected to be in charge when Man United take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday as they prepare to hire an interim boss. However, Kanchelskis feels Rangnick has not done enough at his current job at the Russian top-flight club to be appointed manager at Old Trafford. Rangnick is currently the Sporting Director at Lokomotiv Moscow and Kanchelskis thinks his work so far at the club has not been too ...

Liberia vs Nigeria: Real reason Ighalo returned to Super Eagles

Odion Ighalo has returned to the Nigerian national team after talks with head coach Gernot Rohr. The 32-year-old had announced his retirement in July 2019, after finishing as top scorer at the Africa Cup of Nations that year. Ighalo had initially threatened to retire after Nigerians blamed him for the Super Eagles’ exit from the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The former Watford and Manchester United star missed some chances in the final group match against Argentina, which later cost the team as they lost 2-1. Following the game, he received threats and insults on his Instagram page, which forced him to lock his comments section. However, he was talked out of quitting by Rohr and President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick. Rohr had been in talks with I...

Nigerians don’t appreciate their presidents until they die – Fashola

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has said Nigerians don’t appreciate their presidents until they are dead. Fashola stated this as a guest speaker at the Yoruba Tennis Club public lecture. He blamed it on the poor understanding of the powers of a president. The former Governor of Lagos State also said lack of proper interaction between the president and Nigerians was responsible for citizens not liking their presidents while alive. “Of all the Presidents we have had, Nigerians never loved any one of them while in office; we seem to love them after they have left or died. “Why is that so? To me, the answer is lack of depth in interaction. “Nigerians are not sufficiently familiar with the constitution and the role of which offices a...

Former Manchester United star, Peter Schmeichel, has blamed the club’s three players for the second goal Manchester City scored against the Red Devils during Saturday’s Premier League derby. The three players are Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly. Man City defeated Man United at Old Trafford, thanks to Bailly’s own goal and Bernardo Silva’s strike. But Schmeichel defended De Gea’s performance and focused his criticism on Shaw, Maguire, and Bailly. “The second goal was a terrible goal to concede,” Schmeichel told BBC Radio 5 Live. “David de Gea couldn’t do anything initially, but my god, what are Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw doing on the back post? “They should clear the ball. Maguire and Shaw both leave it, they both have the chance to clear it, thin...

Ronaldo also admitted that the result against Liverpool was not what Man United wanted, adding that it is now up to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to deliver going forward. The Portugal captain was unable to help Man United as Liverpool thrashed the Red Devils at Old Trafford following a hat-trick from Mohamed Salah and a goal each from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota. Reacting, Ronaldo, in a post via his Instagram account after the game, wrote, “Sometimes the result is not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want. “And this is on us, only on us, because there’s no one else to blame. “Our fans were, once...

Ronaldo blamed for Sancho’s struggles at Man Utd

Former England midfielder, Danny Murphy, has blamed Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Manchester United for Jadon Sancho’s struggles at Old Trafford. Murphy believes Sancho is struggling at Man United because Ronaldo’s return at the club has restricted the 21-year-old’s opportunities in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad this season. Sancho is yet to score or assist for Man United following his £73million summer move from Borussia Dortmund this year. “Sancho hasn’t been helped by Ronaldo’s arrival, because it’s restricted his opportunities in his favoured position, with Greenwood also having to play wide,” Murphy told the Daily Mail. “I don’t think arriving at United late after the Euros has helped. Pre-season at a new club is key and I would have turned up the minute I signed if it m...

Central African Republic vs Nigeria: Referee accused of helping Super Eagles win

Coach of the Central African Republic, Raoul Savoy, has blamed their 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in a 2022 World Cup qualifier on poor officiating. Having defeated the Super Eagles 1-0 in Lagos, the Wild Beasts were hoping to complete a stunning double over their highly-rated opponents. However, Leon Balogun and Victor Osimhen scored late in the first half, to seal maximum points for the three-time African champions. But Savoy claims Nigeria earned their result because they were helped by Rwandan referee Louis Hakizimana. “My players did well and I’m very proud of their performance. “Nigeria played with 12 men because the referee helped them to win. “The first goal was from an offside position and my goalkeeper was fouled for the second goal. “We did not concede against Ni...

PSG defeated Man City in Paris, thanks to two goals from Idrissa Gueye and Lionel Messi. But Ferdinand believes that both Laporte, who failed to close down Kylian Mbappe’s cut-back pass, and Dias could have done more to prevent PSG’s first goal. “If you are Dias, you are screaming at Laporte, get out there now and close him [Kylian Mbappe] down quicker. “Because there are enough white shirts in the box to deal with that situation,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport. “The moment he stands and is in-between, the indecision is a domino effect and leaves everyone else to pick up the pieces.”...

The Portuguese saw his side fight back from a two-goal deficit twice only to fall 3-2 against Maurizio Sarri’s side in the Rome derby. During the game, referee Marco Guida dished out six yellow cards, but Mourinho feels the match was undone by his grip on the whistle. “Unfortunately, a fantastic game was ruined by the referee and VAR, who were not at the right level for this match. “The second goal could’ve been 1-1, it went to 2-0. The Dutchman was handed a rare start for the visit of the Hammers, but failed to impress yet again as United crashed out of the competition. Manuel Lanzini’s goal in the ninth minute proved to the winner at Old Trafford. When analysing the only goal of the game, Stoney said on Sky Sports: “It’s poor defending, he (van de Beek) has got him in his eyesight. There were plenty of chances for Portugal to equalize against Belgium, but Felix and Fernandes both missed their opportunities to score for Fernando Santos’s side. “I get really annoyed with it, particularly when they are quality players,” Keane said on ITV. “There is no excuse for it, seeing players leaning back and just missing the target, at least test the goalkeeper, these are top players no getting away from that. “Felix, when he came on, that guy was an imposter, he is an imposter. “He comes o...
