Damasak: UN Confirms Boko Haram Attack On Its Facility, Aid Services To Reduce

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has confirmed an attack on its facility in Damasak, Borno State, on Saturday. The attack will force the UN to reduce its humanitarian operations in the area I am deeply concerned about recurrent reports of violent attacks by non-state armed groups putting the lives of civilians under risks. Last night and through the morning, a violent attack in Damasak town, in Borno State, was reported with three international aid partners’ facilities directly targeted, set ablaze, and sustained damage. I continue to be concerned about the safety and security of civilians and humanitarian workers. I strongly condemn the attack, as humanitarian aid operations and facilities are the lifeline for people affected by violence an...

Imo Turning To Another Borno, Nigerians Lament On Social Media

Nigerians on social media have lamented the persistent attacks by gunmen in Imo State, with many expressing fears that the South-East state was fast turning to another Borno State. Borno State, with Maiduguri as capital city, is located in Nigeria’s North-East. The state rose to inglorious fame when Mohammed Yusuf, founder of militant Islamist group Boko Haram, was killed in 2009. Yusuf’s death birthed a macabre era of unprecedented uprising; carnage, bombings, kidnappings, amongst other crimes against humanity, even till date. Millions of aboriginal Borno residents have also been displaced by the activities of the insurgents as military forces battle to clear the terrorists out of the entire North-East. Unlike Borno in faraway North-East, Imo State located in the South-East g...
