Aggrieved APC Candidates Criticize Amaechi Over Boycott Of Rivers Council Polls

Aggrieved members of All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to Magnus Abe have lambasted the Minister of Transportation and leader of the party in Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, for writing to the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), that the APC will not participate in today’s election. The Abe faction had conducted primaries for the Local Councils elections and the chairmanship and councillorship candidates emerged, hoping to be elected at the polls before the Supreme Court disqualified their faction and authenticated the Isaac Ogbobula camp which is loyal to Amaechi. The aggrieved APC members, while speaking yesterday in Port Harcourt, described the action of the minister as unfortunate, stressing that the unfavourable development came up after they had perfected al...

Footballer Toni Kroos reacts to plans by some countries to boycott the Qatar 2022 w/cup as reports allege 6,500 migrant workers have died in the country since 2010

World cup winning champion, Toni Kroos says "it's wrong" that Qatar were given 2022 World Cup hosting rights after reports alleging that thousands of migrant workers have died since the hosting rights of the competition were awarded to the gulf state eleven years ago. Germany have been among several countries to stage protests against alleged human rights violations in Qatar before their World Cup qualifying matches this month. A report from The Guardian showed a damning picture of working conditions and stated that more than 6,500 migrant workers have died in the Gulf State. However, Kroos does not think the problem will be solved by a proposed boycott of Qatar 2022. The report added that workers are subjected to very long hours in hot conditions without enough...

We Would Rather Lose Goods — Northern Traders Adamant As Boycott Hurts Both Side

The Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) says it prefers that farm produce go to waste rather than tolerate continued attacks on its members in the south. Awwalu Aliyu, an official of the union, who spoke to TheCable in Kano on Tuesday said the decision not to supply food to the south was not to starve southerners but to protest attacks on their members. Aliyu alleged that some members in the south were killed, maimed and lost properties especially during the #EndSARS protest and the recent Shasha market crisis in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. WE’D RATHER LOSE THE FARM PRODUCE When asked if members of the union were not concerned about food items locked up inside trucks in Jebba, Niger state, going bad and leading to losses, Aliyu said: “It...

No Sex Until We Are Vaccinated; Italian Politician Calls For Boycott Of Viagra

With anger rising across the continent at the slow delivery of coronavirus vaccines, one Italian politician has had an idea: a sex strike until the drug companies sort out the mess and deliver what they promised. Ferruccio Sansa, a regional lawmaker from Liguria, suggested on Facebook a boycott of Pfizer drugs such as Tavor (which stops you from being anxious) and Viagra (same). Boycott Viagra and Tavor? We would be a little less sparkling and more anxious. But who knows that it may not be a weapon to defeat the colossus PFIZER. The one that had to provide us with millions of vaccines while instead the doses come with the dropper. Let's get to the point: Pfizer and AstraZeneca announce huge delays in delivery of doses. The vaccination campaign and thousands of lives are at ris...

Access Bank pleads as EndSARS protesters demand boycott, Says It Was Only Following Orders

Amid an online campaign for customers to boycott Access Bank Plc, the management of the bank has sympathised with #EndSARS protesters for freezing their accounts. Access Bank had frozen the accounts of at least eight persons involved in the #EndSARS campaign based on the orders of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The bank’s decision to freeze the accounts was done nearly two weeks before CBN obtained a court order to do so. The move subsequently put the bank in a bad light with hundreds of social media influencers calling on Nigerians to boycott the bank which is Nigeria’s biggest lender. They argued that Access Bank ought to have been more thorough like Stanbic IBTC, whose founder, Atedo Peterside, had openly refused to freeze the account of any person without a valid court or...

The Economic Sanction Of Cow Meat Boycott

I re-print here today a viewpoint expressed in my “Treasures” column in the New Telegraph newspaper last Wednesday because of its currency. Next week, we shall attempt a content analysis of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s damning letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, and the side swipes at the ruling All Progressives Congress, the dethroned Peoples Democratic Party as well as the clarion call for a Third Force, which is a sad reminder of ill-fated Lt. Col. Victor Banjo and the Third Force during the Nigerian Civil War. Nigerians are generally very imaginative or wicked, depending on which side of the divide you sit; imagine that OBJ’s letter to Buhari is already being described as epic battle between two godfathers – OBJ, godfather of farmers and Buhari, godfather of herdsmen! Very apt,...
