Abducted Kogi ex-provost dies during rescue operation

A former provost of the College of Education Technical Kabba, Chief Julius Oshadumo, has died 10 days after he was abducted at a church service in Kabba, Kogi State. Punch reports that the 78-year-old former Provost was killed during a rescue operation. Oshadumo was among those abducted from ECWA Church in Okedayo-Kabba together with a 70-year-old worshipper on September 26 during a church service. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ten million naira for the former Provost who was said to be asthmatic. However, two million naira was offered for his release. Oshadumo was said to have died when vigilantes attempted to rescue him and others abducted in a forest around the Ogori area of the state. Two die as church building collapses during service in Taraba

No fewer than two persons have been confirmed dead after a building belonging to the Holy Ghost Church in Abeda Pave Community, Chachanji Ward in Takum Local Council in Taraba state collapsed during an ongoing church service on Saturday, September 11. According to reports, the building collapsed following a heavy downpour that lasted several hours. The two victims were male and female while several other members of the church sustained varying degree of injuries. Confirming the report, the council chairman, Shiban Tikari, said even though he was aware of the incident, he was yet to visit the area. He, however, confirmed that two persons lost their lives in the mishap.

The Federal Government has instructed that duration for each church service must not exceed an hour. This was disclosed in a statement by the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, while rolling out guidelines for the reopening of worship centres, in a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. “Churches to open from 5am and close by 8pm. 23-Year-Old Man Sentenced To Two Years In Prison For Stealing N150,000 Cell Phone During Church Service In Ogun State

23-year-old Femi Fayemi will spend two years in prison for stealing cell phones valued at N150,000 in a church. An Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State on Monday sentenced Fayemi after he pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing and burglary. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. B. B. Adebowale, convicted the young man without an option of fine, saying his action was contrary to the provisions of sections 415 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
