NFF Considers Amuneke, Salisu Options For Rohr’s Assistant Role

Sequel to the recent uninspiring performance of the Super Eagles that led to the home and away draws with their Sierra Leonean counterparts in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the leadership of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are set to take measures to check the slide. Consequently, the NFF is tinkering with the idea of contracting either Emmanuel Amuneke or Salisu Yusuf to assist Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, adding to Joseph Yobo’s assistant capacity. “Having seen the technical report from the coach and taken into consideration the observations from the meeting with the sports minister, we shall open talks with either Emmanuel Amuneke or Salisu Yusuf to support Rohr,” an official of the NFF told Completesports.com “We have to look at the possibility of getti...

Nigeria Considers Discharging Yet-To-Recover COVID-19 Patients – NCDC DG

The Nigerian government has said it may consider discharging COVID-19 patients earlier than their required treatment and isolation period, even though they are still positive. The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, made this known at the daily Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday. Mr Ihekweazu said new evidence shows that it is safe to discharge recovering COVID-19 patients even when the results are still positive. “New evidence is emerging that even when the test is still positive after that patient has been in care for a certain amount of time, it is possible and safe to discharge that patient to home isolation. ”So we are looking at the evidence and we might change our guidelines over time.I am s...

PDP Considers Dogara As Minority Leader

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has mandated its members in the House of Representatives to select their principal officers and inform the party of their decision today. The party, according to a reliable THISDAY source, met the House members last Friday and mandated them to select their principal officers like the Senate had done in a cordial atmosphere. However, THISDAY gathered that former speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, is being tipped as the natural choice to fill the slot of minority leader. “In any case, as former speaker, he has assumed leadership naturally and has been the one co-ordinating our members in the House,” a reliable party source said, adding: “He is good to get it except he declines the offer.” Accordin...

Akeredolu Mulls Defection To AA As APC Considers His Suspension

There were hints on Monday that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State may soon find his way out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over his spat with the party leadership. Sources in APC said the governor may pitch his tent with the Action Alliance (AA) where many of his loyalists who are disenchanted with the APC national leadership decamped to. The state chapter of the APC has been in crisis since the primary election that produced Akeredolu in September 2016. Some party groups in the state claimed that after his victory in the governorship elections, Akeredolu failed to unite members of the party. The crisis manifested in the presidential election where President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC candidate, lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democr...

Okorocha Considers Backing Ohakim After Dumping His Son-in-law

In a new twist late Monday in Owerri, it emerged that Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha is mulling the idea of backing Ikedi Ohakim of the Accord Party for the Match 9 Imo governorship election. This information was exclusively disclosed to Daily Sun by one of the governor’s closest aides who hails from Ideato North, Okorocha’s maternal home. He asked that his name not be used in this report. According to him, Okorocha feels that he has put his legacy at great risk by backing his ambitious son-in-law Uche Nwosu to succeed him. The source stated that Rochas is blaming “Uche Nwosu’s vaulting ambition as being responsible for him losing his grip on Imo APC and earning the hostility of the national leaders of the party.” This new development comes on the heels of APC’s suspension of ...

Senate Considers Buhari’s Leave Letter, President Calls Osinbajo Co-ordinator

The letter, written by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly, to inform the lawmakers of his medical leave and to transmit power to his deputy, is generating controversy. Buhari had stated that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo would coordinate the affairs of the nation while he was away instead of writing that Osinbajo would act as the President. Senate President Bukola Saraki, at the plenary on Tuesday, read the letter from Buhari, informing the legislature of his medical vacation in the United Kingdom. Buhari said his stay in the UK would be determined by his doctors. While the President said in the letter that Osinbajo would “coordinate” the governance of the country during his absence, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa criticised the letter as not naming Osinbajo as Acting Pr...
