‘It will cause more suffering’- Ohanaeze Worldwide kicks against IPOB’s sit-at-home order

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, a socio-cultural association, has kicked against the sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB to protest the arrest and detention of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu was arrested in Kenya on June 27 and extradited to Nigeria on June 29 and has been in DSS custody since then. IPOB in a statement released few days ago, announced that it will enforce a lockdown every Monday in the South-east until Kanu is released. Sowore Calls For The Immediate Release Of IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu

Omoyele Sowore, a popular Nigerian activist and Convener of Revolution Now, has called for the immediate release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Sowore, in a Facebook post, asserted that Kanu had done nothing to cause his arrest. “FreeKanu now! Asking for self determination is not a crime!”, he wrote. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). This followed his arraignment on Tuesday before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja. The judge adjourned until July 26 for continuation of trial. Kanu, who faces treason charges, was arrested outside the shores of the country and flown back to Nigeria. The secessionist jumped the bail he was granted in 2017 and had remained elusive.

South African Woman Arrested for Allegedly Plotting to Murder her Ex-husband over Child Maintenance

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested in South Africa for allegedly plotting to kill her ex-husband over child maintenance, police said on Thursday, February 25. The suspect, Elelwani Jane Nedzamba was arrested by the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation members in Thohoyandou, Limpopo. The Hawks received a tip-off about the plot and kept an observation which led to the apprehension of the suspect after she withdrew R10 000 meant as deposit to pay the hitman. The suspect appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Friday, 26 February for conspiracy to commit murder. Her case was remanded to the 14th of April 2021 in the same Court as she remains in custody.
