FG To Reduce Data Cost From N1,000 To N390 Per Gigabyte

The Executive Vice Chairman, EVC, of the Nigeria Communication Commission, Umar Danbatta, has revealed that the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy is planning to reduce the cost of data from N1,000 to N390 per gigabyte. Speaking to journalists in Kano on Saturday, Mr Danbatta disclosed that part of the plan was the new national broadband plan for the year 2020-2025, which says Nigeria must provide broadband connectivity, cover virtually all parts of the country and deploy 4G infrastructure also across the country. The Naira, yesterday, was stable at N364 per dollar in the parallel market. Meanwhile, the naira yesterday appreciated by seven kobo in the  Investors and Exporters (I&E) window due to a 189 percent increase in the volume of dollars traded. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for the window dropped to N364.15 per dollar yesterday from N364.22 per dollar on Tuesday, translating to seven kobo appreciation of the naira. The volume of dollars (turnover) traded yesterday in the window rose by 189 percent to $390.15million from $134.90 million on Tuesday.

UTME 2017: JAMB Clarifies Position, Says Awaiting Results Candidates Can Apply

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified its position on candidates awaiting results being able to write admission examinations into tertiary institutions. The examination body had initially barred candidates without their Ordinary Level results from sitting for the Universities Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The board’s initial stand was based on the fact that many institutions have admitted candidates on merit only for them to discover that such candidates do not have qualified O’levels results or the right combination for admission. Nigerians Spent N3.66trn On Calls, Data In Two Years — NCC

abuja—THE Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has said Nigerians spent N3.66 trillion on telecommunications services in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar Dambatta, dropped the hint at the flag-off of the NCC Year of Consumer at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. According to him, Nigerian subscribers spent $5.6 billion in 2015 and $6.6 billion in 2016, amounting to $12.2 billion (N3.6trn) on telecommunications services at an average exchange rate of N300. The analysis of the amount showed that the N3.66 trillion spent by Nigerian telecoms subscribers is more than half of the 2017 annual budget of N7.298 trillion.
