Nigeria Might Soon Exit Second Wave of Coronavirus – Minister of Health, Ehanire Osagie

The Minister of Health, Ehanire Osagie has said that Nigeria might soon exit the second wave of the Coronavirus disease. Osagie who spoke at a briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday February 22, said the country has been recording a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases. The Minister also disclosed that the decreased positivity rate from sustained testing in states, is synonymous with global trends. 42 Percent of Nigerians Lost their Jobs Due to Coronavirus – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has announced that its recent survey revealed that 42 percent of Nigerians have lost their jobs due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The Bureau said the study was conducted between April to May 2020, during the time when the index case was identified in the country. It was further gathered that the impact of COVID-19 has been most strongly felt in the commerce, service and agriculture sectors. While seventy-nine percent of households surveyed reported that their households’ total income have decreased since mid- March, NBS added that the economic shock experienced by Nigerians after the outbreak of Coronavirus far exceeds shocks experienced between 2017 and 2019. Nigeria has overtaken South Africa as the biggest economy in Africa after the latter went into recession. Prices Of Food Stuff Decreased In November – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said the average price of some selected food items in the country decreased in November. Tomatoes NBS disclosed this on Friday in its November “Selected Food Price Watch’’ report released in Abuja. It said the average price of one dozen of medium sized agric egg decreased from N482.9 in October to N477.76 in November. The bureau said price of a dozen of medium sized egg increased year-on-year by 3.16 per cent and month-on-month by -1.06 per cent in the period under review.
