Redknapp names one player that’ll help Chelsea win title this season

Former Liverpool star, Jamie Redknapp has insisted that Romelu Lukaku is key to Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes this season. He also believes that the Belgian ‘singlehandedly’ dragged the Blues back into the title race on Boxing Day after the striker came off the bench to help the Blues beat Aston Villa 3-1. Reece James’ own goal had put the home side in front but the Blues went into the break on equal terms thanks to Jorginho’s 34th-minute penalty. But Lukaku came on after the break to score the second for the west London side when he found space and headed past Emiliano Martinez in the 56th minute. The Belgian was then brought down by Ezri Konsa inside the box allowing Jorginho to step up again to score his second from the spot. The win mean that Chelsea are now lev...

Ronaldo has five of the ballon d’Or title to his name and is still aiming for more at the age of 36. And Lewandowski has now explained the key difference between Messi and Ronaldo, the two players who have often pipped him to the individual titles. “It has always been a duel between them. Barca travel to Munich this week in danger of being knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages for the first time since 2000, if they fail to register a win. “The running of the club, it’s as simple as that,” Pique simply said, when asked why Bayern have been so much better than Barca in recent years. The 36-year-old now has 12 goals for the Red Devils since he returned in the summer. “Michael Carrick has done a really good job organising the team, getting a response from the team and getting two wins and a draw during what could have been a really difficult period for Man Utd. “But the team has bounced back under him and they’ve got a win over a decent Arsenal side. Arsenal made a couple of mistakes and got punished and this is why you have Cristiano Ronaldo in your team. “He’s a difference maker and it proved to be the difference for Man U...

Man City too strong for Hammers in snowstorm

Goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho guided Manchester City through a snowstorm and up to second in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over West Ham at Etihad Stadium. Gundogan's first-half tap-in (33) was the difference between the two sides at the interval, which was heavily extended as City's ground staff valiantly cleared the playing surface of the deluge of snow that had made the end of the first period virtually unplayable. The adverse conditions and lengthy half-time break prevented a free-flowing second half but City kept West Ham at arm's length throughout before wrapping the victory when substitute Fernandinho scored (90) with one of his first touches within three minutes of coming on. West Ham, who fell to back-to-back Premier League defeats for the first time...

Man United lost to Man City at Old Trafford following two goals from Eric Bailly (own goal) and Bernardo Silva. “It felt worse [than the defeat to Liverpool],” Keane told Sky Sports. “The goal just before half-time meant it was game all over. “Man City are a different type of team to Liverpool. The response from Spurs was non-existent following the goal with Nuno Espirito Santo's team failing to register a shot on goal in the second half as their run of two straight victories came to an end. The victory sends the Hammers above Spurs in the table with the north Londoners now suffering four straight defeats in London derbies.

Reflecting on the result, Garkpah provided an assessment of why the Lone Stars were unable to scale the hurdle postured by Gernot Rohr’s men. “I think we started slowly. We showed too much respect to the Super Eagles as we didn’t create many scoring opportunities. “We didn’t trouble [Maduka] Okoye much; he looked to be on holiday for most of the game probably because the formation did not allow us to push higher up the pitch and mount pressure on their back four. “A...

The midfielder was teed up by Burak Yilmaz before blasting in from long range on the stroke of half-time. PSG were unable to make their possession count from there on in. The story of the final could have been different, however, had Abdou Diallo taken the best second-half opportunity. He failed to convert a headed effort from inside the six-yard box with just Leo Jardim to beat. After dethroning PSG as Ligue 1 champions in the last campaign, Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men ha...

“The things a woman will do and be called Olosho, men will do it and be hailed” Simi responds to critics of her previous post

Simi has responded to those who criticized her for writing that "many of our parents raised their girls and let the boys raise themselves." The singer had taken to Instagram to point out the difference in how boys and girls are raised, while asking parents to do better in raising their sons. People responded, asking her why there are many wayward women if girls were indeed raised better. The singer responded, pointing out that the same things women do that earn them the wayward tag, boys do it and they are hailed. She added that the only time men say women have it easier is when they point out that women get favours for being beautiful.  She then asked if it isn't sad that women aren't rewarded for their brilliance but because of how they look. She went on to spe...

WBC Heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury has revealed that he might not fight Anthony Joshua immediately after fighting Deontay Wilder later this month. The ‘Gypsy King’ will face Deontay Wilder for a third time on July 24,  and fans are hoping to see him meet Anthony Joshua soon after but Fury says the fight might not be easily put back together after negotiations fell through in May following Wilder’s arbitration victory. Joshua’s team have spent the past month negotiating with Oleksandr Usyk and that fight is now planned for September 25. Fury says he might not fight Joshua this year because there is a two-month difference between his fight and Joshua's fight, and he intends to fight twice this year. Insecurity: It’s Ridiculous People are not Defending Themselves against Bandits – Gov Masari

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has insisted that it is ridiculous that people are not defending themselves against bandit attacks. He said Katsina residents cannot simply rely on security agencies to solve the problem of insecurity in their location. The Governor said this while speaking at the Katsina police headquarters on Friday, where he inaugurated the Katsina Joint Security Operations and Communication Control Centre meant to assist security agencies operating in the state. According to the governor, “Security is our responsibility. Why are we surrendering our responsibility to some people? I can’t see how more committed a police or military officer can be than any of you. “Why should I sit in my village and be only making telephone calls without doi...

Carl Nassib Coming Out is ‘a Force for Good’ – NBA Trailblazer John Amaechi

A professional football player has come out as gay and is taking a stance by donating money to an LGBTQ organization focused on preventing teen suicides. Carl Nassib is a defensive end for the Las Vegas Raiders and in a video statement, he announced he was gay. “I just want to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay, I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile now but I finally feel comfortable enough to get it off my chest,” Nassib said in the video on Monday. It’s caused many in Orlando’s LGBTQ leadership to applaud Nassib for his bravery in coming out. Many see this as an opportunity for a positive role model to make a difference on and off the field. ”Young kids that identify as LGBTQ can now have a role model in professional sports,” George Wallace with the LGBTQ Center Orla...

England top group as Sterling header sees off Czechs

Raheem Sterling was England's Wembley match-winner once again as his early header earned a 1-0 victory over Czech Republic, sealing top spot in Group D and setting up a last-16 tie next Tuesday with the runners-up of the pool containing France, Germany, Portugal and Hungary. Local lad Sterling (12) made the difference against Croatia in England's opening match of Euro 2020 and he doubled his tally for the tournament with a close-range header from Jack Grealish's excellent cross, after earlier hitting the post inside two minutes. England were without Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, who had been forced to isolate after Scotland's Billy Gilmour tested positive for coronavirus, but played with an attacking freedom in the first half which had been missing from their first two group game...

Ten-man Wales Beaten by Italy but into last 16

Ten-man Wales sealed second spot in Group A and a place in the last 16 of Euro 2020, despite losing 1-0 to a much-changed Italy in Rome. Ethan Ampadu's straight red card on 55 minutes had sparked fears Switzerland - who beat Turkey 3-1 - could come up with the goal difference swing they needed to send Wales into the uncertainty of a third-place qualifying spot. But Rob Page's side battled hard in the heat of the Italian capital to set up a knockout clash with the runners-up of Group B in Amsterdam at 5pm next Saturday. Bernardeschi hit the woodwork with a free-kick just after half-time as Roberto Mancini's team showed their strength in depth, although Gareth Bale should have claimed a famous draw for his side when he wastefully volleyed over late on. Wales supporters will hop...

Switzerland beat Turkey but made to wait on last-16 place

Switzerland missed out on a top-two finish in Euro 2020 Group A on goal difference despite a 3-1 victory over Turkey in Baku on Sunday. Vladimir Petkovic's side knew nothing but a win would be good enough if they wanted to qualify for the last 16 with a second-placed finish in the group, and the Swiss were sent on their way by first-half goals from Haris Seferovic (6) and Xherdan Shaqiri (26). With Italy leading 10-man Wales 1-0 in Rome, confidence would have been high in the Switzerland camp on reeling in Rob Page's side, but Irfan Kahveci's stunning strike (62) was a huge blow to the Swiss' last-16 chances. Shaqiri (68) did restore his side's two-goal advantage but there were to be no more goals in Baku, while Wales held on for a 1-0 defeat to secure their passage to the kno...

Euro 2020: Mourinho predicts outcome of England vs Scotland clash

Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, has said England will defeat Scotland in their Euro 2020 group game on Friday. According to the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss, it would take a “miracle” for Steve Clarke’s team to win. The two rivals clash in a Group D match and if the Three Lions are victorious, they will qualify for the last 16 with a game to spare, following their 1-0 victory over Croatia in the group opener. Scotland, meanwhile, are desperate for maximum points after losing 2-0 to the Czech Republic on Monday. Mourinho wrote for The Sun: “They [Scotland] are super-motivated and they have that Braveheart spirit but in football it’s very, very rare that miracles happen. “When I say miracles, I mean a team overcoming a huge difference in quality. “Can Scotland...
