Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has said that most human trafficking cases and the smuggling of migrants into Nigeria is motivated by financial incentives. Nigerian, Benard Emurhowhoariogho Okorhi has been sentenced to serve 75 months in U.S. federal prison for his role in an international fraud conspiracy. Okorhi, 42, is the 11th member of the fraud gang to be jailed. He was initially living in Ghana, operating a business known as Coolben Royal Links LTD. His gang used compromised email accounts to steal from businesses and romance scams on internet dating sites to trick individuals into wiring money overseas. Naira Depreciates Against Major Currencies… See Latest Exchange Rate

The Nigerian naira has continued to record a slope against major currencies at the exchange rate market on Thursday. The naira on Friday sustained its depreciation against the dollar at the investor’s window, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. The Nigerian currency shed 11 kobo to exchange at N360.42, weaker than N360.31 traded on Thursday. At the parallel market, the Naira exchanged at N362 to a dollar, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N515 and N445. Trading at the Bureau De Change, BDC segment saw the Naira closed at N362 to a dollar, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N515 and N445. Millionaire Car dealer and real estate agent Sheron Sukhdeo who hails from from Trinidad and Tobago was murdered on Monday in cold blood. He was just 33. Police reports said that Sukhdeo was shot multiple times in a drive by attack outside the home of relatives at Caroni Savannah Road, Charlieville shortly before 9p.m on Monday March 26th. German Smokers Paid More Tax In 2017

German State collected more tax from smokers in 2017 than in 2016, figures released by the Federal Statistical Office on Friday showed. Tobacco products worth 31.4 billion dollars were taxed in 2017, an increase of 0.8 billion euros or 3.2 per cent on 2016, the office said. Sales of cigarettes rose slightly by 1.1 per cent over the same period to 76 billion units. The trend in Germany continues to be away from smoking: in 1991 some 146.5 billion cigarettes were taxed, for example. Warnings and shocking photos of diseases caused by smoking now appear on German cigarette packaging.

The National Broadcasting Commission says the country needs 32 million Set Top Box for it to switch from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting. The Director-General of the NBC, Ishaq Kawu, made this known during a news conference on Digital Switch Over held in Lagos on Friday. Kawu said that the number was arrived at by dividing 191 million Nigerians by six, which represented the number of a household. NCAA Cautions Ethiopian Airlines On Deportation Charges

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered Ethiopian Airlines (ET) to stop collection of what the airline called “refundable deportation fee”, saying such fees are unauthorised by the agency. According to NCAA, these unauthorised charges referred to as “Refundedable Deportation Fee” are put at between $75 and $150 per passenger. A Yaba Chief Magistrate Court, has issued a warrant of arrest on two Canadian nationals Kiranjot and Tara Matharoo, who are standing trial before it, in a case of threat to kidnap, cyber-stalking and blackmail against Nigeria billionaire and oil mogul, Femi Otedola, socialite Dapo Balogun and one Omoregie Ige, for failure to appear in court.
