The Independent National Electoral Commission has reacted to reports that N6bn was budgeted for Police feeding in the 2019 general elections. According to INEC, 'the estimated budget for this is more than 25% less than what is being bandied around and it covers all elections including bye elections, re runs, run offs and court ordered elections.'. INEC also said the budget covers 'feeding all election personnel on election days and it covers all INEC permanent and ad hoc staff, presiding officers, supervisors, monitors, collation and returning officers and all security personnel on election duty including the police, NSDC, Immigration, Prison & NDLEA officers, etc numbering in excess of a million people'.

Nigeria Customs Seizes 21 Cars, N1.18bn Contraband

The Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ikeja, says it intercepted 143 contraband with a Duty Paid Value of N1.12 billion. The Area Controller of the command, Mohammed Uba, a Comptroller, told journalists in Lagos on Wednesday that it also recovered N67.4 million, through interventions. Mr Uba said that the seizures and recoveries were made between June 13 and July 24. He said that the N67.4 million was recovered from duty payments, demand notices on vehicles and dealers in general goods who tried to cut corners from seaports, airport and border stations, through wrong classification. He also said that 10 suspects were arrested in connection with 143 different seizures. The seizures, he said, comprised 9,504, 50kgs of foreign parboiled rice...

Gunmen Ambush And Kill Police Officers, Set Them On Fire At A Checkpoint In Edo (Graphic Photos)

It has been reported that as many as four police officers including one sergeant have been brutally killed in Edo. Local reports show that the police officers were attacked and killed by unknown assailants yesterday in Sabongidda-Ora. An eyewitness, Oliha Collins, revealed that the attackers laid an ambush in a bush as they waited for the policemen to resume duty at their checkpoint. While the driver of the police vehicle was trying to park in a get way position, the hoodlums came out of their hiding place and opened fire on the policemen. To be sure the officers were really dead, the attackers set them and their vehicle on fire before fleeing the scene. An investigation has been launched immediately. Two veteran Los Angeles police officers have each been sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting women while on duty. James Nichols, 46, and Luis Valenzuela, 45, pleaded no contest to charges of raping and sexually assaulting four women between 2008 and 2011. On Monday, as they were set to stand trial on charges of rape and forced oral copulation, both men, who were partners on the force, accepted plea deals and a 25-year prison term to avoid trial and the possibility of life behind bars. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office says the victims assaulted by the officers ranged from 19 to 34 years old and all were involved in drug-related investigations. ​THE Nigeria Customs Service has “put on hold” the controversial motor duty payment that has generated tension between it and Nigerians.
