Oyo Declares Friday Public Holiday

The Oyo state government has announced Friday May 21 as a public holiday, ahead of local government election scheduled to hold in the state. Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr Taiwo Adisa who urged residents of the state to participate in the election, said the public holiday was declared to enable the state conduct a hitch free local government election holding on Saturday, May 22, 2021. The Republic of Congo's main opposition candidate Guy-Brice Parfait Kolelas died as he was being transferred to France for treatment for Covid-19, his campaign director told AFP Monday, a day after presidential elections were held. Kolelas "died in the medical aircraft which came to get him from Brazzaville on Sunday afternoon", said Christian Cyr Rodrigue Mayanda. Kolelas was being evacuated to France for treatment when he passed away. He first tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday and fell seriously ill. He spent election day in hospital. INEC suspends bye-election in Ekiti state following violence that left three persons dead

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the Ekiti East constituency I bye-election holding today March 20. According to a statement released by the electoral body, the election was suspended following the outbreak of violence in various polling units in the LGA. Three voters were killed by suspected political thugs during the attack. A police officer, an NYSC member, and an INEC staff also sustained gunshot injuries.
