Residents of Geidam town in Yobe State, which is the hometown of Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and the immediate former governor of the state Ibrahim Geidam, no longer have network on their phones as Boko Haram fighters have razed down masts belonging to Airtel and MTN in the town. FEC approves the establishment of 20 New private universities

NUC approves establishment of Confluence University in Kogi

The National Universities Commission has approved the establishment of Confluence University of Science and Technology in Osara, Kogi State.   The approval which came on Tuesday November 10 brings to 50, the number of state-owned universities in Nigeria.   NUC Executive Secretary Prof. Abubakar Rasheed who made the announcement in Abuja, said the newly recognized university would have the maximum support of the commission.   Rasheed commended the Kogi State Government for investing in education, and also added that all other supporting agencies including the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board and the National Youth Service Corps had been notified about the approval.

Justice Kabir Dabo of the Kaduna State High Court has sentenced one Usman Shehu Bashir, to death by hanging for raping a two-year-old girl to death. The case started on March 23 2015 and lasted over a period of five years. While delivering judgement on Wednesday June 3, Justice Dabo said Bashir had taken little Fatima to his room and for about 40 minutes, raped her which led to her death.
