NIS introduces visa on arrival to boost foreign investments

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has said that its newly introduced visa on arrival facility was to attract foreign investments to the country. Mr Abdullahi Dalhatu, the Controller of immigration in charge of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), made the disclosure on Friday October 88. He explained that the visa on arrival policy was meant to facilitate easy travels, especially urgent business trips as well as promote international trading activities. A United States court, on Friday, August 20, sentenced a Nigerian man to  51 months in federal prison. Ismaila Fafunmi was imprisoned for fraudulently obtaining over $370k from senior citizens in the U.S. US district judge, Karen Caldwell, convicted Fafunmi for money laundering of the proceeds of romance fraud and grant fraud schemes targeting senior citizens. Fafunmi, under the federal law, must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence and upon his release from prison, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years. The naira has slumped further to 523/$ at the black market after trading was closed at the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Wednesday, July 28. A barman said to be the chief mastermind of last week's foiled robbery of a branch of First Bank in the Mpape area of Abuja has been arrested.
