Some of the fleeing inmates have been captured- Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola speaks on attack on Oyo correctional facility

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has confirmed the attack on the Abolongo Custodial Centre, in Oyo State, by a large number of heavily-armed gunmen on Friday, October 22. In a statement released by his media aide, Sola Fasure, Aregbesola said the armed squad unit members of the Nigerian Correctional Service and other security agencies on guard at the facility engaged the attackers in a gun duel that lasted for 20 minutes before they were overpowered after the attackers used grenades and other explosives to gain access into the awaiting trial section of the facility and set free many of the awaiting trial inmates. Gunmen attack Abolongo correctional facility in Oyo, set prisoners free

Armed men have attacked one of the facilities of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) in Oyo State. Abolongo correctional facility was attacked by the gunmen at about 10pm on Friday, October 22. It was gathered that the gunmen set all the prisoners at the facility free during the attack. They allegedly used grenades to gain access and set prisoners free. The attack left the facility in disarray with warders scampering for safety. Other security agencies have been mobilised to support men and women of the Nigerian Correctional Service in tracking down the fleeing gunmen and rearresting the prisoners.

EFCC warns hotels to stop helping internet fraudsters after recent raid in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned hotels across the country to stop aiding internet fraudsters.   The anti-graft agency's spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement on Wednesday, that owners could become criminally liable for allowing their premises to be used for cybercrime.   He noted that this is a contravention of the Advance Fee Fraud Act which on conviction could lead to a five-year term in prison without the option of a fine.   "The Commission warns hoteliers from allowing their premises and facilities to become havens for cybercrime," he said.   The statement was in reaction to EFCC's recent raid at a hotel in Lagos where operatives arrested at least 30 people accused of internet fraud.   Th...

A kidnapper has been killed as he attempted to collect ransom in Abobo village in Okehi Local Government Council of Kogi state.
