FCT police debunk rumours of attack on Abuja community, calls for calm

The FCT Police Command has debunked reports of an attack on Kuchibena Community of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja by unknown gunmen. DAILY POST recalls that some news platforms had reported that armed men recently invaded the community and attacked residents leading to the death of about four persons. Reacting to the report, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh said a preliminary investigation by operatives of the Command revealed that there was no such attack. Unknown gunmen broke into the Hilltop Hotel at Tunga Maje in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday night June 23 and abducted the owner of the hotel, Prince Adejo and other guests in the hotel.   DailyTrust reports that Adejo and six other people were said to be holding a meeting inside his hotel when the gunmen struck.   Eyewitnesses say the gunmen, numbering 10, broke into the hotel located at Unguwar Jikupa on the edge of the town, around 10:30pm, shooting twice in the air to scare people before taking the victims who appeared to be the target of the attackers.  Hon. 198 new cases of COVID19 recorded in Nigeria

198 new cases of COVID19 were recorded in Nigeria on Wednesday, November 25.   According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, FCT recorded 53 new cases, the highest for the day.   Other states with new cases include Lagos-48, Ogun-40, Akwa Ibom-20, Bauchi-9, Plateau-8, Kaduna-5, Kano-4, Benue-3, Jigawa-3, Nasarawa-3, Edo-1 and Kwara-1.   Nigeria now has 66,805 confirmed new cases. 62,493 patients have been discharged so far with 1,169 deaths recorded.   See breakdown of the number of cases per states below

Lagos, Rivers, FCT, Ogun Earned More Than Other 33 States combined 2020 – NBS

The index in Tuesday's report revealed that the IGR of Lagos State, put at N204 billion, is higher than that of at least 29 states put together. The quartet of Lagos, Rivers, the FCT and Ogun State raked in a total internally generated revenue more than all other 33 states of the federation combined in the first half of 2020, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said. The NBS said the 36 states of the federation and federal capital territory generated N612.87 billion in the first half of 2020. Of the total amount, the aforementioned states and the capital city earned N335 billion, equivalent to 54 per cent. Other states made a total of N277 billion (46 per cent). 245 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Monday, May 4, 2020. Buhari To Gradually Ease Lockdown In Lagos, FCT And Ogun From 4th May, Imposes Total Lockdown On Kano For Two Weeks

President Buhari has extended the lockdown imposed on Lagos, Ogun and the FCT Abuja by one week. Kano has now been included in the lockdown. The measure will be in place for two weeks. Buhari also announced an overnight curfew from 8pm to 6am nationwide. “This means all movements will be prohibited during this period except for essential services”, he said in his broadcast on Monday night. Buhari promised to begin a “phased and gradual easing of lockdown measures” from 4 May.

Man Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Killing Uber Driver in Abuja

An FCT high court has sentenced one Obinna Echanu to death by hanging for killing an Uber driver. Obinna and one Everly Nnerun, were arraigned before the court for allegedly conspiring to kill the Uber driver, Edwin Ali, on December 26th, 2016 along the Abuja airport road. Echanu and Nnerun were charged with five counts which include armed robbery, conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms and culpable homicide. Delivering judgment on the murder case filed against them by the police, the presiding judge, Justice Peter Kekemeke discharged and acquitted Nnerun for lack of evidence by the prosecutor, which is the Nigerian Police, but convicted Echanu and sentenced him to death by hanging as his counsel failed to prove his innocence before the court.

FCT Court Jails 27 Women For Prostitution

An FCT mobile court which sat on Monday, jailed 27 women for prostitution following their arrest last Wednesday and Thursday. The 27 women who were jailed for one month by the FCT court, were, however, given an option of N3,000 fine each. Speaking after the sentencing, their lawyer, Jennifer Ogbogu, explained that the sex workers pleaded guilty to the charges against them and were summarily convicted and sentence. She said, “The ladies were arraigned before the mobile court for prostitution and were each sentenced to three months in jail with an option of N3,000 fine. We have just paid the fine and all of them have been released from custody.”

Justice Olukayode Adeniyi had fixed March 1 for the judgment after counsels to all parties in the suit argued and adopted their respective briefs for and against the suit. The federal, states and local governments Wednesday shared a total of N788.139 billion for the month of October as the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting ended in Kaduna.
