Armed bandits kill two Poly staff in Zamfara

Armed bandits have killed two staff of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, Usama Nazifi and Bashiru Muhammad. It was gathered that Nazifi, 37, and Muhammad, 39, were shot dead by the gunmen who stormed at a low-cost area of Kaura Namoda in the early hours of Wednesday, March 24. According to Nazifi's brother, who spoke journalists, the bandits invaded the deceased's residence at around 2:30 am and asked him to open his door but he shouted and called for help. The lecturers have reportedly began strike action by closing down the gate of the school in protest of N1 Billion salaries arrears owed by the rector. Students have also shown displeasure over the rector’s action, as the federal government is being called upon to intervene.

Caretaker Allegedly Kills First Year Nekede Poly Student Over House Rent

A student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, identified as Anthony Chinweotito Emmanuel, has been allegedly killed by his caretaker over issues surrounding payment of rent. The incident happened at one of the off campus hostel called Ezinwanne Lodge on Tuesday but the deceased, a first year student of the Department of Building Technology, died in a hospital on Saturday night, February 6. It was gathered that the caretaker whose name could not be ascertained, hit the student with a wood on his stomach. According to some of the students in the hostel, the caretaker had locked up the water supply because some students refused to pay the full house rent. The Student Union Government President of Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in Ogun State, was apprehended over the weekend during a cult meeting. The SUG President identified as Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji, was nabbed alongside another member of the Aiye (Black Axe) Cult. Olatunji who was in his full cult regalia when they were busted, has been handed over the police alongside his colleague. He was reportedly elected in December 2019.

Auchi Poly lecturer commits suicide 3 days to his birthday

A lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Mr Patrick Okojie, has reportedly committed suicide three days to his 47th birthday. ‎His decomposing body was said to have been found on his plot of land at Igbira Camp, along Igarra-Auchi road, four days after he was said to have been missing. Okojie who lectured at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of the institution until his death, was said to have been due for promotion to a chief instructor by this month’s end before he died. Family sources said, the deceased who left behind a wife and three children, did not leave any suicide note. A National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member identified as Justice was on Saturday shot dead in Imo State. Justice, an indigene of Abia State and a 2016 graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State was said to be serving in Cross River State before his demise. Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Dr Mas’udu Kazaure, has called on the Federal Government to establish more technical colleges across the country. Kazaure told newsmen, in Kaduna, on Wednesday, that the country was supposed to have at least one technical college in each of the 774 Local Government Areas. The Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, was on Sunday shut indefinitely following violent protest by students over the death of two of them. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that trouble began on the institution’s campus late Friday, when two of the students reportedly complained of malaria. They were said to have been rushed to the Polytechnic Health Centre for treatment, but their condition later became worse. They died in the early hours of Saturday. The family of a 47-year-old man‎, identified as Charles Obaretin, has appealed to the Nigeria Police to unravel the circumstances surrounding his alleged murder in Ologbo community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. The late Charles was said to be an unemployed graduate of mechanical engineering from the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, who had been introduced to a job at an oil mill by one of his friends.
