FG Grants Dangote Cement ₦22.32bn Tax Credit

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has issued Dangote Cement Plc, tax credit certificates valued at ₦22.321billion. The tax credit certificates are for construction of Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota road in Lagos and Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road straddling Kogi and Kwata states. While Julius Berger is handling the construction of the two federal roads, Dangote Cement Plc is providing the funding. To compensate Dangote Cement, the Federal Government has issued the company the certificates to cover for the tax that Dangote Cement would have paid. The Federal Executive Council has approved the reimbursement of funds expended on federal roads by some state governments. The total sum to be reimbursed to five states is N148,141,987,161.25. Among states shortlisted to benefit include Cross River N18,394,737,608.85, Ondo N7,822,147,577.08, Osun N2,468,938,876.78, Bayelsa N38,040,564,783.40 and Rivers N78,953,067,518.29. Hope Uzodinma Meets Buhari, Seeks Refund Of N32bn Spent On FG Roads In Imo

Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo state, on Thursday met with President Muhammadu Buhari, seeking his intervention in the refund of over N32 billion his predecessors reportedly spent on federal roads in the state. Speaking with state house correspondents after the meeting with Buhari, Uzodinma said Imo is in “financial distress”. He said the funds, if released, will assist in clearing both salary and pension arrears.
