Abia Divisional Police Headquarters Attacked by Unknown Gunmen

A police divisional headquarters in Abia State, was on Sunday May 9 attacked by unknown gunmen. The attack on the police facility located at Trademore Estate in Umuahia, the state capital was carried out at about 9:45am. No life was lost in the attack, but it was however gathered that one of the police personnel on duty sustained an injury and has been taken to a hospital for treatment. Police Public Relation Officer in the state, Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the attack and also disclosed that police authorities in the state were making effort to ascertain the level of damage at the facility and arrest the perpetrators. Police Arrest 22 Suspected Cultists In Abia

The suspects were arrested in a bush at Umuhutte Ahiaeke Ibeku in the Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state during their initiation ceremony. Policemen attached to the Abia State Commissioner of Police Crack Squad have arrested 22 suspected cult members. In a statement made available to Southern City News on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna, stated that the suspects were arrested by the cops acting on a tip-off. Ogbonna said the suspects were members of the Neo Black Movement of Africa, also known as Aiye. Traders at a fabric warehouse on Ehi Road in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State, said they lost over N1m to yet to be undefined gunmen who attacked the warehouse. It was gathered that the gunmen, who were over six in number, reportedly robbed their victims, while they were making payment for goods purchased from the owner of the warehouse. One of the traders who identified himself as Kelechi said on Thursday, that the gunmen came in two commercial tricycles and struck at about 2pm on Monday.
