Outbreak Of Bird Flu In 7 States In Nigeria – NCDC Confirms

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said that Kano, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Niger States have reported confirmed human cases of Avian Influenza H5N1 also called “Bird flu.” The NCDC Director General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Avian Influenza H5N1 made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday in Abuja, while providing highlights of the epidemiological situation and response activities in Nigeria. Adamawa Records 7 New Coronavirus Cases

The Adamawa state government has recorded  7 new cases of Coronavirus. This was confirmed on Monday May 4, by Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Malam Bashir Ahmad who is also the state chairman of COVID-19 Containment Committee. While five of the new cases are direct contacts of the first case in Mubi, the other is from Lamurde, an Adamawa town and local government area on the Adamawa-Gombe border. The last case is an escapee from Gombe State. The SSG who disclosed that Mubi is the epicenter of the virus in Adamawa State, said the new cases brings the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 12.

103 Killed by Lassa Fever in 16 States

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday February 19, revealed that that 103 people have been killed by Lassa fever since its recent outbreak on December 30, 2019. Late victims of the disease resided in Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Kano, Kogi, Kaduna, Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi, Enugu, Abia, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Sokoto and Katsina. A total of 586 cases have been confirmed across the country. Edo has the highest burden of confirmed cases at 35 per cent, followed by Ondo with 32 per cent and Ebonyi at six per cent. 26 states have also recorded at least one confirmed case across the 101 local government areas in the country. Domestic Debts Of 36 States, FCT Hit N3.5trn In H1’18

The Debt Management Office (DMO), yesterday, said the domestic debt stock of the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) stood at N3.5 trillion as at the first half of 2018 (H1’18). The figure indicates that the states and FCT increased their debt stock by about N200 billion or 6.0 percent over the N3.3 trillion recorded at the end of December 2017. According to data released by DMO on its website, Lagos State has the highest debt stock at N517 billion or 17 percent of the total debt stock of states. The death toll from the Lassa fever disease ravaging the country since the beginning of the year has risen to 101, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has said. The health agency, in its situation report of April 8, said 408 cases of the disease had been confirmed from 20 states, where the disease has been active. Some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri have lauded the free medical programme initiated by the Presidential Committee for North-East Initiative (PCNI). PCNI had conducted a 7-day free medical treatment for 2, 000 persons displaced by Boko Haram insurgency in Maiduguri, the host community. Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority Lowers Minimum Visibility For 18 Airports

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in conjunction with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has lowered minimum visibility for takeoff and landing of flights for 18 airports which have improved navigational aids, including Performance Based Navigation (PBN) and other equipment that enhance visibility during inclement weather. This new minimum visibility will take effect from thursday. Before now, the average minimum visibility was 800 metres below which flights were not allowed to operate to the airports, but now flights can operate when visibility is about 150 meters, depending on the available navigational aids. Transport Ministry Achieves 16% In 2017 Budget Performance

Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi on Monday said that the ministry achieved only 16.5 per cent performance in the implementation of the 2017 Budget. He made the disclosure during the 2018 budget defence before the Senate Committee on Land Transport . According to him, out of the N192.895 billion appropriated for the Ministry for capital expenditure, only N31.932 billion was released, representing 16.5 per cent of the appropriated sum. According to the family, the burial which was earlier scheduled for today was shifted because of airspace clearance of the remains of the deceased who died on Monday at a hospital in the United States of America. “The postponement was due to airspace clearance but the burial will take place tomorrow Saturday 4th, same time and venue,” the family said in a statement by Ahmad Mohammed Goje. NUC Approves Gombe State University Of Science And Technology

The National Universities Commission, NUC, has approved the Gombe State University of Science and Technology as the 154th university in Nigeria. The approval for the Gombe State-owned institution was granted on Thursday in Abuja. The Executive Secretary of NUC, Abubakar Rasheed, announced the approval during a meeting with the governor of the state, Ibrahim Dankwambo, and his technical committee. According to him, Gombe State University of Science and Technology becomes the 46th state-owned university and 154th university in Nigeria. NEMA Assists 5,623 Disaster Victims In Gombe – Official

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has assisted 5,623 disaster and crisis victims in Gombe State between March and July. Malam Abani Imam, the Head of Operations, Gombe and Bauchi NEMA office disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Gombe State on Thursday. Imam said that 4,200 were affected by flood in Akko, Kaltungo and Yamaltu Deba Local Government, while 1,148 were victims of Billiri/Shongom Local Government communal clash. He said that 231 people in Dadin-Kowa community were also affected by flood, while 44 others were victims of inferno at Gombe Timber markets.
