A Franciscan nun from Colombia who was abducted in 2017 by fighters in Mali has been freed. Sister Gloria Cecilia Narvaez was released on Saturday October 9, after more than four years in captivity. She was taken hostage on February 7, 2017, by the Macina Liberation Front, an al-Qaeda-linked group in southern Mali near the border with Burkina Faso where she had been working as a missionary. Dino Melaye has been granted bail on grounds of ill-health by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja. Justice Yusuf Halilu who ruled on the bail application by Dino Melaye argued by his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, stated that the Senator must be healthy to stand trial. According to the Judge, since the Senator cannot be arraigned on the stretcher or ‎on his hospital bed, he should be allowed on bail to attend to his health.
