Travellers Stranded On Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway As Boko Haram Attacks Military Base

Nigerian soldiers on Sunday morning stopped traffic along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway for three hours as they engaged Boko Haram terrorists in a shootout. After the shootout, the military said soldiers escorted a long convoy of stranded travellers to Damaturu. Security sources said the shootout took place at Lawan-Mainari village, about two kilometres from Jakana town. The terrorists had reportedly targetted a military base but were repelled. Jakana is about 41km from Maiduguri, Borno State capital. The town has been attacked several times in the last 10 years. Buhari Administration Is Constructing 524 Highway, Bridges Nationwide

The Buhari administration is currently undertaking 524 road and bridge construction projects across the country.  This was made known by the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola. Fashola made the revelation while updating the Federal Executive Council on the ongoing road and bridge construction/rehabilitation projects nationwide. According to him, 80 of them as priority projects scheduled for completion in the 2020-2021 fiscal year. They were prioritized to enhance ease of doing business in the locations. Less than 48 hours after temporary closure of the busy Bida-Minna road due to a collapsed bridge, the highway has been reopened after an emergency repair and rehabilitation by a team of engineers from the state ministry of works and construction company. The bridge at Daku Sabon Gida Village along the Minna-Bida Road about 16 kilometres to Bida collapsed on Friday following a heavy rainfall and flood that cut off the road linking Minna with Bida in Niger state. Graduate Preparing For NYSC, Burnt To Death In Kogi Tatal Accident

On Thursday August 23rd, a fatal accident that occured along the Zariagi-Lokoja highway in Kogi state, left three persons burnt beyond recognition. It has now been revealed that one of the deceased, Hafsat, had just recently graduated from the Kogi state University and was set to leave for NYSC camp in two weeks time. Hafsat and nine others were involved in the accident. While three of them were burnt to death, five of the victims are currently receiving medical care at the state hospital while one of the victims escaped unhurt. Police in Ogun State have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged hijacking of a truck-load of lager beer on the highway.
