Kano Hisbah Invades University Hostels Arrests Male, Female Students In Same Room

Officials of Hisbah in Kano state have invaded some off-campus hostels of the Bayero University in Kano, arresting students of the opposite sex found in the same room. SaharaReporters gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday night at Danbare, a small community directly opposite the university’s gate. It was learnt that the Islamic police broke into the students’ rooms and took them to their office. A source said the operation by the state religious body sparked off tension in the neighborhood as other students kept vigil all through the night out of fear of the unknown. Bowen University students burn down hostels after the school VC suspended 200 students for refusing drug tests

News coming out of Bowen University indicates all is not well.According to gists from students of the private university, the school Vice Chancellor has suspended over 170 students indefinitely and another 100 students will face disciplinary committee for refusing the school’s regular drug tests.The angry students took laws in their hands and started burning down their hostels.

Fire Razes Plateau Polytechnic Female Hostel

The female hostel in the Jos campus of the Plateau State Polytechnic was on Monday completely burnt down by fire. The fire, which started around 8.30am, raged on till 11.44am, throwing the entire school into confusion as students and staff members scurried to safety, with some students making frantic but fruitless efforts to quench the inferno. The News Agency of Nigeria, however, reports that no life was lost in the fire that gutted everything in the hostel. “Many students had left for lectures when the fire started; no one was around to remove anything from the burning hostel,” a security man, Yusuf Ade, told NAN.
