EFCC warns hotels to stop helping internet fraudsters after recent raid in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned hotels across the country to stop aiding internet fraudsters.   The anti-graft agency's spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement on Wednesday, that owners could become criminally liable for allowing their premises to be used for cybercrime.   He noted that this is a contravention of the Advance Fee Fraud Act which on conviction could lead to a five-year term in prison without the option of a fine.   "The Commission warns hoteliers from allowing their premises and facilities to become havens for cybercrime," he said.   The statement was in reaction to EFCC's recent raid at a hotel in Lagos where operatives arrested at least 30 people accused of internet fraud.   Th...

Jigawa Hisbah Confiscates 308 Bottles of Alcoholic drinks in raid at Hotel

Jigawa State Hisbah  has confiscated 308 bottles of assorted alcoholic drinks in a raid on a hotel in Gumel Local Government Area of the State. The State Hisbah commander, Malam Ibrahim Dahiri, who disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse on Saturday, May 15, said the raid was carried out on Friday morning. He said that the items were confiscated during an enforcement tour carried out by its operatives at one of the hotels in the area at about 10 a.m. He stated that no arrest was made during the operation as the suspected owners and users ran away on sighting the operatives. Bauchi Hisbah Confiscates 260 Crates Of Alcoholic Drinks From Hotels, Night Club

The Bauchi State Hisbah Command said it confiscated 260 crates of alcoholic drinks from hotels and night clubs. Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, at the weekend made good his threat to demolish hotels operating in Port Harcourt, the state capital despite the ongoing 24-hour lockdown to check spread of coronavirus pandemic. The Governor, while placing the capital city, comprising Port Harcourt and Obio-Akpo local government areas on curfew, vowed to pull down hotels operating during the lockdown and buildings, whose shops opened for business. A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paulinus Nsirim, said some hotels were already found culpable of disobeying Wike’s lockdown directive. Hotel In Central Italy Hit By Avalanche

A hotel in central Italy has been hit by an avalanche and rescuers are trying to ascertain whether there are any victims. Three people were believed missing after the avalanche hit the hotel in Pescara, a province in the Abruzzo region, on Wednesday, Italian news agency ANSA reported, citing rescuers who had spoken to witnesses. Several news websites quoted the president of the province as writing on social media that an avalanche had hit the Hotel Rigopiano, saying it was buried in snow. "There seem to be victims, but it all needs to be confirmed. There were 20 guests in the hotel," provincial President Antonio Di Marco was quoted as saying.
