Two Nigerian women who became the first people in Ireland to be convicted of human trafficking for the prostitution ring they ran, have received jail sentences of five years and eight months and five years and one month. Alicia Edosa (45) and Edith Enoghaghase (31) were each found guilty of two counts of trafficking women around Ireland on dates between September 2016 and June 2018 following a six-week jury trial at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court in June. Thirteen victims of human trafficking have been rescued by the police in Katsina State. Two suspected human traffickers were arrested in the process. The 13 rescued victims are made of 10 women and three men, all from the Southern part of the country. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) has secured the arrest of three suspected human traffickers and rescued fourteen victims of human trafficking. The suspects, two females- Evelyn Jerry, 27, Stephen Rebecca, 30, and Mr. Richard Patrick, 38, were intercepted in Lokoja, Kogi state. NAPTIP Secures 7 Convictions Of Human Traffickers In 2017 In Benin Zone

The Benin Zonal Command of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) says it secured seven convictions of human traffickers in 2017. Mr Nduka Nwanwenne, Zonal Commander of the zone that comprises Edo and Delta, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Monday. Nwanwenne said that the convictions ranged from five to 14 years in prison.He also said that no fewer than 75 suspected traffickers were arrested within the period, while about 3,000 victims were rehabilitated.
