Again, Gunmen Invade Ibarapaland, Number Of Victims Unknown

According to a report by The PUNCH, serious panic gripped residents of communities in Ibarapaland, Oyo State, on Friday night, as gunmen invaded Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state and allegedly opened fire on some persons. Residents of the town told our correspondent that the gunmen, who allegedly dressed in Customs uniform, invaded the town around 7 pm, shot and killed an unspecified number of people they met at the entrance of the town before fleeing. The eyewitnesses said they did not know the number of persons killed by the gunmen, but that one of the sources had claimed that one person was shot dead by the rampaging hoodlums. Ibarapa Youths Storm Makinde’s Office, Protest Against Insecurity

Youths from various parts of Oyo State have stormed the State Secretariat at Agodi to register their displeasure against the incessant killings by criminal herdsmen in Ibarapaland, Oke-Ogun and other parts of the state. The youths are also protesting the arrest and the remand of three members of the Oodua Peoples Congress in prison on the order of the court. The three members were part of the vigilante groups that captured the dreaded Fulani herder in Ibarapaland, Iskilu Wakili. They were layer charged with murder and arson and were remanded in prison. Fulani ‘Warlord’, Wakili Charged For Murder, Kidnapping; Remanded In Prison

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, ordered that alleged notorious Fulani warlord in Ibarapaland, Abdullahi Wakili, 70, be remanded in a correctional facility. The police charged Wakili alongside his sons Abu, 45; and Samaila, 27; as well as Aliyu Manu, 20; with six counts bordering on conspiracy, murder, kidnapping and armed robbery. The Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Idowu, who did not take plea of the suspects for want in jurisdiction, remanded them in Abolongo Correctional facility in Oyo State. ‌ Idowu ordered the police to return the case file to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution. He adjourned the matter untill May 17, for mention.

Fresh Crisis Brews In Igangan As Herdsmen Resume Farm Destruction

Fresh crisis appears to be brewing in the Ibarapaland area of Oyo State, following the return of Fulani herdsmen to the area and the alleged destruction of farms in the area. Fulani herdsmen had, in January, migrated out of Igangan and other communities in Ibarapa, Oyo State, following the eviction notice given to Seriki Fulani of Igangan, Salihu Abdukadir, by Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho.
