Two Nigerians Jailed in the UK for fraudulently claiming £500k loan meant for businesses affected by Covid-19

Two Nigerians who exploited the UK Government's Coronavirus Bounce Back loan scheme by using the identities of eight innocent people to fraudulently obtain £489,000 have been jailed. Timilehin Yvette Olasemo, 39, of Bedale Road, Romford, appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, March 17, and was sentenced to three years and two months’ imprisonment for conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation. Olasemo pleaded guilty to the offence on 12 November 2020 at Southwark Crown Court. Co-defendant, Olufumi David Akinneye, 33, of Cowthorpe Road, Lambeth, was sentenced to a total of five years and six months’ imprisonment for conspiracy to money launder and conspiracy to commit fraud after pleading guilty to those offences on 12 November 2020 at Southwark Crown Court. ...

Gunmen abduct 50 Passengers in Niger state

Over 50 passengers have been abducted by unknown gunmen along the Tegina-Minna road in the Rafi Local Government of Niger State. The passengers who were in three vehicles, were abducted by the gunmen who blocked the road at Kundu town, a few kilometres from Zungeru town. Channels Television also reported that armed bandits kidnapped unknown numbers of villagers at Gidigori town in Rafi Local Government Area, burning five cars and carting away valuables. A senior government official who craved anonymity said nothing has been heard from the bandits to enable the authorities to know the identities of those kidnapped. This is coming less than three weeks after 40 NSTA passengers were kidnapped.
