Footballer Toni Kroos reacts to plans by some countries to boycott the Qatar 2022 w/cup as reports allege 6,500 migrant workers have died in the country since 2010

World cup winning champion, Toni Kroos says "it's wrong" that Qatar were given 2022 World Cup hosting rights after reports alleging that thousands of migrant workers have died since the hosting rights of the competition were awarded to the gulf state eleven years ago. Germany have been among several countries to stage protests against alleged human rights violations in Qatar before their World Cup qualifying matches this month. A report from The Guardian showed a damning picture of working conditions and stated that more than 6,500 migrant workers have died in the Gulf State. However, Kroos does not think the problem will be solved by a proposed boycott of Qatar 2022. The report added that workers are subjected to very long hours in hot conditions without enough...

The number jumped after US courts ordered the administration to stop separating immigrant children from their parents for lengthy periods, a practice that had left hundreds of young children detained in US government camps without family for months on end. Last week the Trump administration moved to lift the 20-day legal limit on how long children can be separated from their families, in a move aiming to establish a stronger deterrent to illegal immigration. “August Southwest Border Migration numbers show a clear indicator that the migration flows are responding to gaps in our nation’s legal framework,” said DHS spokesman Tyler Houlton. “Smugglers and traffickers understand our broken immigration laws better than most and know that if a family unit illegally enters the US they are likely to be released into the interior,” he said in a statement. Data from US Customs and Border Protection showed the total number of people arrested, including individuals and unaccompanied children, also rose significantly in August from July to 37,544 individuals, and was sharply higher than one year ago. Erdogan Calls Ozil, Praises Exit From German Team

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday said he had backed Mesut Ozil’s decision to quit the German national team on racism grounds in a telephone call with the Turkish-origin football star, wading into a controversy that caused uproar in Germany. Ozil stunned football at the weekend by announcing he planned never to play again for the national team after criticism he deemed to be racist of a meeting with Erdogan two months ago. His move has divided opinion in Germany but received warm applause in Turkey, whose government has long campaigned against what Ankara sees as rising Islamophobia in Europe. “Last night I spoke to Mesut. His attitude in the statement is completely patriotic, it is absolutely praiseworthy behaviour,” Erdogan said, quoted by state news agency Anadolu. “I k...

Teresa Giudice You Know Who’s A Bitch? Not-So-Nice Immigrant Sofia Vergara

Teresa Giudice thinks Sofia Vergara acted like a "bitch" during a photo-op, which is totally out of line because -- according to Teresa -- Sofia's an immigrant and oughta act nice. The 'RHONJ' star spilled the beans last week during a panel discussion -- "Gettin Real With The Housewives" -- where the audience asked about her best and worst celeb encounters. Teresa tore Sofia apart. Here's what happened, according to Teresa. She and Sofia took a pic last week together while at a media event and Sofia supposedly stepped in front of her to steal the spotlight. Then she griped about posing with Teresa. Teresa straight-up calls Sofia a bitch. She then gets xenophobic ... saying immigrants should be good-natured. On a positive note ... at least Jennifer Lopez is all good in Teresa's book.

Nigerian Immigrant Stabbed To Death In Calgary

Nicholas Ozoechi Nwonye was a kind person who, even in the briefest of moments, left an indelible impression. That’s how those who knew the victim of Friday’s deadly CTrain platform stabbing are remembering the 46-year-old father of three — killed in an attack police say was random and unprovoked. “He was just such a treat to have there,” said Rhonda Hersak, an instructor at nearby Bow Valley College where Nwonye was enrolled in the school’s practical nursing program. “(He was) a very kind, empathetic individual. He smiled all the time.” Indeed, Nwonye was on his way home from Hersak’s lecture hall when the deadly attack took place, at 6:45 p.m. on the westbound platform of the City Hall LRT station in downtown Calgary. Stabbed in the chest and abdomen by a man he’d never me...

Thousands of women from around the nation are planning to converge on Washington for a march on the day after Donald Trump's inauguration, driven by a multitude of motivations. The causes of gay rights, gun control, immigrant rights, equal pay, reproductive freedom, racial justice, worker rights, climate change and support for vaccinations are attracting people to the Women's March on Washington and its sister marches across the nation and globe on Saturday. "We are not going to give the next president that much focus," says Linda Sarsour, a national march organiser and executive director of the Arab American Association of New York.
