Nigeria: 420,000 women, 21,000 babies infected with HIV

The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has expressed concern over new paediatric HIV infections in children aged 0-4 years. “For example, PMTCT coverage is only 37 per cent and 21,000 new paediatric HIV infections recorded in children aged 0-4 years in 2019,” Mr Ehanire said during a national dialogue on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) on Tuesday in Abuja. A nursing mother has been arrested after she stabbed her three kids to death. The 28-year-old mother from Basud in Camarines Norte, Philippines, hacked her children, ages 5, 1 year/8 months old, and 4 months old, to death at their home. The mother also tried to commit suicide but survived it. 101 Inmates in Military Prison test Positive for Coronavirus in DR Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo's health ministry has announced that 101 inmates have tested positive for Coronavirus in the N'dolo military prison in Kinshasa. “Fifty-six (additional) people in Ndolo military prison were confirmed with COVID-19” on Saturday, while forty-three cases had been diagnosed at the prison on Thursday and Friday," a statement said. According to the authorities, only three infected inmates have been admitted to a hospital outside the facility. Six inmates are under close supervision in the prison while the rest have mild symptoms. It was also revealed that three wings of the prison were disinfected on Monday.
