Police Arrest 15 In Kaduna For ‘Killing 706 Cows, 75 Sheep’

Fifteen suspects have been arrested by the Police in Kaduna State for allegedly killing 706 cows and 75 sheep in Atiyap chiefdom of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State. The suspects are said to have dumped the animals in a ditch after the carnage. Court Orders Prison To Release Zeenat, El-Zakzaky’s Wife For COVID-19 Treatment

A Kaduna state high court has asked the Kaduna correctional service to release Zeenat, wife of Ibrahim El–Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), for COVID-19 treatment. In the ruling delivered on Monday, the court asked that Zeenat be moved to a government isolation facility to begin treatment immediately. Last Thursday, Mohammed, son of the IMN leader, said his mother, Zeenat, tested positive for COVID-19 at the Kaduna correctional centre, but that the authorities refused to release her for treatment. El-Zakzaky and his wife have been in detention since 2015 after his followers clashed with soldiers in Zaria, Kaduna. The IMN leader is standing trial for alleged culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace.

Court dismisses charges against four #EndSARS protesters arrested in Abuja

Four out of the six #EndSARS protesters who were charged with unlawful assembly in November 2020 have been discharged by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.   The four defendants who were discharged on grounds of lack of diligent prosecution of the case by the police are Olutosin Adeniji, Abdusalam Zubarur, Paul Akinwumi, and Devour Chomo. Two others, Yasidu Bashiru and Kabiru Garzali were absent.   The defence lawyer Henry Akwaji who was asked why the other defendants are absent, told the Magistrate Musa Eneye that they fell ill and are receiving traditional treatment in Kaduna.   Responding, the magistrate noted that there was no medical report to support the claim of ill health status of the two defendants.   Mr Eneye said therea...

The whereabouts of seven police officers out of 15 that were ambushed by bandits along the Birnin Gwari-Funtua road on Friday is still uncertain. However, Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that eight of the officers were rescued. 59 new cases of Coronavirus were recorded in Nigeria on Saturday November 7, as confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).   A breakdown of the new cases is as follows; Kaduna-28, Rivers-9, Ogun-8, Ondo-8, Kano-2, Niger-2, Kwara-1, Plateau-1.   There are now 63,790 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country and 1,154 deaths have been recorded. 59,884 patients who recovered from the disease have also been discharged.
